Well as a Leaf's fan, I am pained by all this ill will and hostility towards my inept Leafs. I mean, please, kick us when we are down already.......
That said, I cant even work up a good hate for Ottawa. My tax dollars go there in to a black dark hole, but their team is just a bunch of good little boys who skated well for one season and all the sudden everyone thinks they are the bomb. Look, when Ottawa actually BEATS the Leafs head up in the playoffs and makes it past the first round more than once, I might start to really hate them. Heck, I like Gene Melnyk and have always thought Bryan Murray is a decent guy, so I still may not hate them.
No, I save HATING for one team: The Philadelphia Flyers. I hate what they stand for. They brought goon hockey to a fine art. They fired a coach for having Cancer (we dont' need no sick guy around here - Bobby Clarke), they were lead by a GM for years who stocked up on goons while never once drafting a decent goalie. They were lead by this same GM whose main claims to fame were breaking Kharlamov's ankle because he couldn't skate with him, and his ability to hide behind Dave Schultz after sticking a guy with his stick.
No, The Flyers deserve all the misery and hate I can deliver, because they did a deal with the devil to win in 1974 and 75, and even tho I am never going to be a Hab's fan, I stood up as a kid and cheered when the 76 Hab's smoked these jerkoffs out in 4 straight. I haven't changed my mind since and nothing the Sniders have done with the Flyers has told me they have changed....
