Also the up keep is to high. If I were to open a food establishment, I would do it like Johnny Burger at VP and Sheppard. No tables in the place, and no dishes. No need to pay bus boys, no need to pay a dish washer. You have about 5 guys behind a counter pumping out food all night long at a fast clip. No need to worry about anything else. That's how you do it.

Even fast food chains have diminish sales. Forty to fifty percent of existing restaurants will close in the next three years.

All restaurants are rip off joints anyway with their 15% tip. I do hope they close.

Some Asian places charge $10 for 20 cents worth of tea. you don't know until you see the bill.

Just order pizza or get hot food at supermarket and skip the bullshit altogether.

I do not believe this restaurants are loosing money nonsense, they are crying doom and gloom to justify jacking their prices. Since covid this is a trend adopted by all businesses. I seen how restaurants and even grocery stores cut their opening hours but prices go up. With Trudeau's mass immigration policy, there is so much demand for rent, food, and of course restaurants. They are busy and making tons of money. They are all liars.

Record profits for the grocery chains despite the Libtard Feds asking them to lower prices (ya, that'll work LOL).
Restaurants were getting so much public support during covid including outdoor dining which has now translated into this ridic CafeTO shit where they take road lanes and make them into patios.
Why? Restaurants were doing just fine before covid and before taking away road lanes from drivers/cars/places to park etc.
It's just another sign that the looney Left has too much influence right now.
The pendulum of action needs to swing back to common sense.

Can't say that for all. I definitely see places struggling and some have gone under fairly recently.

One of my favourite shawarma shop use to be pack at lunch time. Now they are lucky to have 3 customers at one time.

Another one near me closed down. Beside them, a burrito place got its doors locked by the property owners and a notice posted on the front window.

That’s what happens when you charge $15 for a shawarma. It was 2 for $9.99 just a few years ago.
Gov prints $600B plus greed equals $15 shawarma.

Another thing I’ve noticed seems like every type of ethnic food is now cooked and served by Indians.
Wtf man.
I want Italians making Italian food and Greeks making Greek food etc.
I went to a new spot near me with the word Acropolis in the title and when I went in for sure it was three Indians in there and let me tell ya they can’t make tzatziki worth a damn.

Do not forget about Justin Castro's mass immigration policy. We are witnessing a population growth never seen before, Canada's population is expanding annually by one percent all due to immigration. That is driving up prices fast. It is a simple law of economics, why else are rents in Toronto for a 3 1/2 is going for $2400 these days? The same for grocery prices. And as for Sharwama, they might have less clients but are still making money because prices are so high plus like a lot of restaurants they cut down on their operating hours. I cannot say for Toronto, but in Montreal a lot of fast food joints close their dining rooms by 11pm, the McDonalds next to my place has been 24hrs for over 20 years and since covid they close the dining room at 11pm when before it was open 24hrs. All Tim Hortons in Montreal are closing at 9pm with the exception of a few, before most opened 24hrs. Too much greed.

Lol Yes because of Trudeau's and Singh's special deal with the Sikhs. Since Trudeau got elected the amount of Indian immigration has went up by more then 5x. It is mostly Punjabis coming, thousands entering daily. Trudeau gives them immigration in exchange for votes.

It was $9.99 a shawarma, but also the foot traffic was 10x back then too.

Factor in the lease, cost for ingredients and other overhead they don't have much of an option to make up margins.

Even large chains that have the volume like McDonald's are charging like $12-$18 for a crappy combo.

You have no clue what your talking about. I owned a restaurant and lost it because I bought it at the wrong time. Even well managed, with fair pricing, and great customer service it can be a dog fight to turn a profit.

Yet prices are higher than they've ever been. Perhaps the value proposition for dine in and takeout no longer exists? I for one am insulted by $20 mediocre hamburgers and then expected to tip 20% on my meal and the tax. As a result, I only dine out for special occasions and have just about eliminated ordered delivery.

I focus on improving my cooking skills and experiment with new dishes at home. Sure, even that food is overpriced, but food is not a discretionary expense, so I take advantage of sales and eat healthier. Works for me! Plus I get my meal the way I want without fail! Another advantage is most of a grocery bill does not have HST, unless you buy prepared foods, so you save there too.
