More telemarketer calls

Has anyone noticed an increase in the telemarketing calls?

I have a non published number and still get some calls from all these really obscure places. Duct cleaners, window and door companies even roofing companies! And this is a brand new number in a newly constructed area.
The stupid Windows and Doors company called me everyday twice a day for the past 4 weeks that I was not home and filled my answering system as their phones hang up just long enough after my answering goes on for it to pick up the call as a legit message.

Is this just a mad dash before the "Do Not Call List" goes live next week?

Same thing happened to me just before the no call list started here.

It doesn't matter what phone, home or cell, these people call me on, I tell them they have reached some sort of business that is adult related. Adult video store, Adult Video production company, escort agency, rub n' tug, etc and I never get a phone call back. I usually add a little offer in return to them and that makes them really hang up quick and stay away.

I love when I get some foreign woman on the phone. I offer her sex toys, or pills for her hubby to stay hard. Works every time.

I hate when you tell them your not interested and they keep on talking. I also hate that you can't slam a cell or portable down in disgust like an old rotary phone. So I just start swearing a blue streak and then hang up.

Just Hang Up !

Just ask to be on the do not call list. It is that simple, they are just people trying to make a living. New emigrants in Canada walk in there shoes for a while!

i got soooo pissed the other day while working from home the other day. I got at least 8 phone calls where there is no one on the other end (i have been told that once you pick up they record your number in their file to call back ...ie taking notice what time you are home) anyway the last time i got it i called the number back and was about to blast music in whosever ear answered. What i got predictibly was a recorded message from some financial institution that prompted me to take my number off their calling list. Now is this what we have to do with the new situation coming up or does it just automatically kick in?

the nobody there call is an autodialer that got ahead of the person running it. If you wait long enough somebody will answer. We have been getting lots more calls recently, the call centers are trying for the laast little bit of business before the no call list kicks in. I am in a 9 year old house the ones that really irritate me are the window and door salesmen, if they looked where the exchange was they might actually get some business

The Autodialled Nobody There calls are easy; You say "hello" once, if no one answers right away, you hang up. Done. Your friends will call back.
Perhaps, the autodial proggy will note the pickup as valid, but so what? When it dials you the next time, you'll do the same thing.

You can download the 'null line' tones to play at the head of your answering machine message. The better autodiallers will note they've dialled a null and remove it. But if you're paying fractional pennies per each for dialled call, what are the odds you'll pay for a better autodialler?

Don't you guys have caller ID? Don't answer, and if they persist block the number.
That's actually a good idea if the number actually shows up and your phone supports it. The law in Canada (Unlike the states) does NOT require telemarketers to show their number on your call display. They even sometimes used spoofed Caller ID strings or simply show up as private and/or unknown numbers. Besides, on cells you can't block numbers selectively, at least not that I know of.

The "Put Me on Your Do Not Call List" has worked for me but for that to happen you first need to get someone live on the line. So many times I get calls that just goes quiet or just disconnects... Bottom line I'm just waiting for the Do Not call list to go live.

This is the official government link to the program that will launch on September 30th:

National Do Not Call List (DNCL)

Do read about it as it exempts certain institutions such as political parties, charities or opinion research firms. Basically anyone who does NOT want to sell something to you is exempted, which is fine with me personally.

Someone posted some link a few posts before to some other site but I'm not sure what that was, anyhow the above link is the ONLY official list so make sure you do not enter your information on another site where it could end up with more telemarketers and so on.

Also read this news article on the list:

Canada's Do Not Call list to launch Sept. 30

And read this one just to make you feel better :)
