Why you don't see what her religion has to do with it is because 'you are putting the cart before the horse.' Yes it is a cultural practice, but it is a cultural practice among (some) Muslims.

I really have my doubts that anyone would be trying to deny the religious component to this murder if the cultural group were Christian or Buddhist or Jewish or anything other than Muslim and such cultural practice murders were limited to members of one of those faiths.

If you look you will see that this disgusting behavior is common to a variety of religions in that part of the world, Sikh and Hindus around there do the same thing, not just the Muslims there. Meanwhile in some other Muslim countries elsewhere in the world this sort of thing is unheard of.
