More GMail Invites avaiable

I actually got a gmail account by signing up for "gmail news" from their info site. Two days after I signed up they sent me an invitation.

After playing around with it a bit - I don't really see anything special.

What exactly is the allure of gmail? Is it because it's "exclusive" still?

its becoming more and more common to see gmail accounts so exclusivity clearly isn't the allure.
I guess, now gmail must settle back to its orginal selling points: Huge mailbox size (1 GB) and little/no spam (its actually very good at this).

Of course, the downside is that they're checking your mail for content and giving you targeted advertising at the bottom of the email.

I for one happen to be in favour of gay marriage, so no - I don't think this sounds strange at all.

my 2 cents

I just changed all my email stuff on sites and ads over to my new gmail account. I find it alot simpler. There are a few features I like better. I like the added space too for when I get pics back from photographers and stuff.

The Gmail thing is quite a phenomenon. Every blog I read, and message board I visit, has a gaggle of people who are desperately trying to get rid of them. It's almost as if people beleive that they have to get rid of them or their account gets shut down. (Note: I'm not referring to you, lasslicker. )

I enjoy it, myself. I have recently stopped using POP3 mail clients and decided to go web based (for a few unrelated reasons). 1GB of storage, and the ability to read all mail from every computer: I can't complain about that.

But the best part about Gmail is that you can download your mail and it stays on their server as well. So you could check the email with Outlook, send your mail with Outlook, and if you're on another computer you can still logon to the webmail version and still read everything.

Aesthetically, however, it isn't any more or less pleasing than any other web based e-mail. So if that is your biggest concern, than you can just skip Gmail.
