Hi there! Me and my girlfriends are planning a Montreal trip and was wondering if you guys have suggestions for things to do and see.

Most of us has not been to Montreal in quite a long time and two of the girls going has never been there.

please keep your suggestions budget friendly as the girls I am going with just graduated university and don’t have their full time career yet (they also don’t know I work this job on the side  )

so far all we have planned is getting some Montreal deli and bagels

Thanks all!

St-Viateur Bagel Shop

Get fresh bagels warm from the oven. The store might still be open 24 hours a day. Almost directly across the street is the Arahova Greek restaurant; the souvlaki on a pita is probably still great. Both near the corner of Ave du Parc and St-Viateur Ouest.

I don't know the nearest Metro station, but it's probably on the Orange line, south of Jean Talon, very likely Beaubien:

Check out the inside of the Notre Dame. Even if you are not a religious person, the main church is absolutely breathtaking on the inside.
Yes we will definitely check this out!

Forget the trek and lineup at Schwartz's Deli, just stay DT Montreal and go to Dunn's Deli and order the smoked meat platter ( medium or medium fat) . . You can share probably . . . Guaranteed or I'll reimburse you . . .

If flying, consider buying a 3 day bus pass at the airport. was $18 when I was there. That will get you on the bus in from the airport, a $10 fare last time I was there, and on the rest of the STM metro and buses as well for three days. Cheaper than the locals on their stm pass card get around on.
Not sure if it gets you back to the airport as well anymore , but in my times there $10 in coins on Rene Leveque at the 747 route stops and that airport bus route will take you back to the airport.

If you drive there and don't want to deal with parking in the city, there is long term city surface parking lots out at south end of the yellow metro line, a few blocks walk from the Metro where parking was like $30 for about 30 hours or something like that.

If it is a nice day weather wise just walk downtown part of Ste Catherine. Green line McGill to Peel metro area.
Lots of shops, or entries into adjacent malls.
Yes lots of good smoked meat spots on Ste C. One is downstairs in a formica fittings time capsule that serves a great meal

If it is crappy weather the underground walkway system is very extensive too.
I would sit in meetings all day, then get the bus back to the core and go walking underground for more than an hour in a big loop before finding a place to eat dinner.
Or not a loop and catch the metro back to near my hotel.

Look up the Barbie museum. It is in a high end mall just a bit north of Ste C. It is a really interesting free activity even if you are not into Barbie dolls.

See if there is a festival running at Place des artes.
There is one most weekends from my experiences there.
A fun space to people watch if weather is nice too.

As to St-Viateur bagels, we took the Parc bus route out to get there from near the McGill metro station.

If you like your female strip clubs where you can sit 10' from the dancer on stage, I would recommend Club Downtown. Ste C near Drummond. Peel green line metro

Nice pubs just off Ste C too.

Nice smaller scale neighborhood main street to walk down with not too expensive cafes along the way if you pop up on the Metro green line at Verdun.

If you are going this weekend you can hang out in a bar and watch Montreal play in the Grey Cup. I'm sure lots of guys will buy you and your friends drinks.

If you like food, farmers markets etc, great stuff at both Atwater Market and Jean Talon Market in little Italy. Also obvious old Montreal area.

A walk from downtown all the way up to top mont-royal via the path is a great 2-3 hours that will make your hungry for a nice smoke meat or Poutine ;)

If sunny old port is nice. If really cold, rainy and windy discover the 12 km of underground city walk.

again if weathers is not cooperating you can ice skate at 1001 la gauchetiere the go at place ville marie roof top bar (called enfant terrible if i remember).

A sure thing for you girls is Bota Bota spa in old port. The spa is actually in a boat directly on st-laurent's river. You guys will make some girl jalous in there haha 😆

Great Turkish food at Antep Kabab.
It was fire and good value for money. Located in area close to lots to see and d

Burn off calories and see Montreal views?

Driving into downtown Montreal?
I highly recommend Parc Stanley. It’s open 24/7 and security onsite to match.
At $18 bucks for (I believe) 24 hours, it’s good value. Vehicle theft is high in Montreal. In and out with car? Might not be best. Park for the trip and it saves you money. Take transit, walk or use the bike share, Bixi, which are everywhere

I agree, if there is a line-up at Schwartz, it is not worth the wait. You can still give it a try for the experience, but in case of line-up, literally right across the street there is a place called Main Deli. Smoked meat sandwiches there are just as good. Parking on St Laurent can be a disaster so LiveInTorontoPartyInMontreal's advise is good if you want to stay in DT. If you stay have a car, you could also drive to Jarry Smoked Meat. Very good stuff but in St Leonard.

I can also recommend to go to Gibeau Orange Julep on 7700 Blvd Decarie. It is a famous Montreal fast food place in the shape of a giant orange. They sell a special orange drink there and classics like poutine and hotdogs and the like. Good stuff.

For historic buildings, my favorite is the Oratory St. Joseph. Incredible place build on the mountain side. You will have to go up many steps / stairs, but the view over Montreal from the top is worth it. The church buildings inside are also impressive. On the top floor there is a shrine which holds the actual heart of Brother Andre, the priest who was responsible for building the Oratory. Pretty creepy.
