Montreal beats Florida 3-1. (they might regret blowing that game late a few days back against Seattle and only getting 1 point).

Current East Standings
#7. Ottawa 77 (16 games left)
#8. NYR 72 (15 games left)
Montreal 71 (16
Columbus 70 (16)
Detroit 68 (16)
Boston 68 (14)

If Ottawa keeps playing well they will graduate off this list, and it will be a race for 1 spot... or perhaps New Jersey with all the injuries slides down.

- Columbus had a nice surprise, and I think this is the first time since November that they are not in a playoff spot. I don't think they have the guns to stick around.
- NYR has the most talent. Now that they are going good they will be hard to catch
- Montreal is technically in the #8 spot based on winning%, but does have a tough schedule left apparently.

I'd like to see Ottawa and Montreal get the two Wildcards, but it will be very tough for Montreal to catch New York.

Montreal has a tougher schedule than NYR over the next dozen games.
The Rangers do end the season with 3 tough games, but it looks possible that Carolina and Florida have nothing to play regarding seeding, so they will be resting / playing key guys less.

If anything Montreal has shown that they can dominate teams that are on paper much better, last night's game against Florida is the latest example. It's the games that they should be winning but are not that worry me, the Seattle game being front of mind. I'm still very happy with the way the season has gone for Montreal regardless of whether they get a wild card spot or not. Demidov, Reinbacher, Fowler, Hauge will all be making their debut in the NHL soon. Lots to be excited for in the coming years

Maybe they can fix a playoff spot like they did with Carbonneau's and Gainey's HOF induction.

Huge win for the Canadiens over the Sens. Great game between two (as of now) playoff teams.

Montreal is now one point up on the Rangers for 8th place... and hold two games in hand. Ottawa has to feel very good at this point given how they are decently ahead of #9.
Rangers lost tonight as did Detroit. Columbus lost last night.

7. Ottawa 77 (15)
8. Montreal 73 (15)
9. NYR 72 (13)
10. Columbus 70 (15)
11. Detroit 70 (14)

As a Sens fan that 3rd period was hard to watch...Sens outplayed les Habs for the first two and then they were just plain out hustled in the last frame...Good for Montreal, they deserved the win.

Ottawa needs to learn from this. Habs played playoff hockey in the 3rd. The Sens did not.

It was supposed to be a celebration of a shitty Habs season…what the fuck went wrong?
The hazzard of counting one's chickens before they hatch. Got more bad news for you too, rumors have it that Demidov could be joining the Habs for this playoff run once the KHL season has ended for St. Petersburg

I didn't realize the KHL doesn't have the same rules...just another reason to love the Habs
SKA's last game of the regular season is on the 22nd. How far they go in the playoffs I'm not sure. Judging by their place in the standings I'm guessing they'll be a quick out but I admittedly know very little about the KHL and how their playoffs run. I'm expecting that if Demidov does make it into the NHL this year it will be in the first week of April.
