I cannot find the link, but I read today that the Mets, Marlins, Yankees, and Blue Jays are interested in Posada. Posada wants a 4 year deal...

I REALLY hope he doesn't end up in Toronto as much as it probably a longshot anyhow. But why sign a 35 year old catcher on the heels of a career season (hmm contract year!)

Coco Crisp

A lot of interest in Coco.

Crisp a hot name
Crisp has been the talk of the GM meetings in Orlando, and according to the Globe's Nick Cafardo it is clear Crisp will be the focal point of most of Boston's talks this offseason. More from Cafardo on Crisp, who is the man without a starting role with the Sox after the emergence of center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury: Three GMs Monday indicated their interest in talking to the Sox about Crisp. The Twins, Rangers, White Sox, Phillies, Astros, Braves, and Padres all are known to have some level of interest, and there are likely more. While Epstein reiterated that he won't necessarily trade Crisp, several teams need center fielders, and some don't want to pay the high ransom for free agents Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter, Aaron Rowand, or even the suspended Mike Cameron. "We'd be crazy to deplete that depth just for the sake of making a deal," Theo Epstein said. "As is the case every offseason, we'll explore our options. Unless there's a significant return, I don't foresee a trade in that area. That said, there may be teams out there willing to give a significant return, given the quality of players we're talking about and the market."

Mike Lowell

Red Sox have an offer on the table for Lowell. It is reportedly a 3 year deal at $12 mil/year. Many think he can get a 4th year elsewhere so it all comes down to how important that extra year is to Lowell. Red Sox will never give him 4 years. They have been known to set a limit on a player and pretty much stick to it. Pedro, Damon are pretty good examples.

Lowell and the Sox have until the 12th to work out a deal, then he is free to entertain offers from other teams.

Bye Bye Lowell

Sox have until midnight to re-sign him and it may come down to the final minute. Boston has extended themselves more than they expected by offering a three-year deal. However, it is evident that the Lowell side believes they can get four years on the open market. Unfortunately, it doesn't look good. Wonder how he will look in freaking pinstripes? NY would love nothing better than to sign another Red Sox star player. Ruth, Clemens, Boggs, Damon, Lyle to name a few. But it was good of the Yanks to unload Mike Torrez so Boston could sign him as a FA. All he did was give up a freaking big fly to Bucky Dent. .

Oh well, at least Dustin Pedroia won the rookie of the year award. Maybe Beckett wins the CY this week.

Lowell re-signs

Nice to see Lowell re-signed with Boston and A-Rod is staying with the Yankees. He (A-Rod) was not wanted in Boston, so this could not have worked out any better. Seems Lowell may have left money and a 4th year on the table elsewhere, however, the team(s) are unconfirmed.

All the 'Chowds' can now get down off their window ledges and go back inside. All is well in Red Sox Nation.

Jays acquired Scutaro!! Does JP like to deal exclusively with Oakland or what??

I see Glavine is going back to the Braves, and Orlando Cabrera was traded for Jon Garland today.

When does Free Agency season officially start, or has it>?

These aren't rumours. These are done deals.

I wanna hear rumours. It's more fun to speculate.

Cubs free agent righthander Kerry Wood to the Red Sox in a reliever's role.

Eric Gagné possibly to Detroit with Joel Zumaya on the shelf for more than half the season. Or Houston takes Gagne to replace Brad Lidge.

Red Sox very interested in Johan Santana, Minnesota is very interested in Coco Crisp to replace Torii Hunter. Crisp is a major chip for the Sox in any trade discussions. The Rangers and Braves also are interested in him.

Barry Bonds to play in California Penal League with Ricky Vaughn. :p

Can't see Crisp as helping Sox to get something valuable in return. He's miniscule in relation to Santana or even Hunter. He's more of a throw in to sweeten the pot.

I disagree. There is a lot of interest out there for him. Crisp will be dealt and he is looked upon as a cheaper version of Torii Hunter, Andruw Jones, Aaron Rowand. He definitely played 'gold glove' defence for Boston in 2007. Will he be traded straight up for Santana - of course not. However Crisp with one of Lester or Buccholz is certainly possible. If the Twins cannot ink him to an extension, he (Santana) will be moved. You can look for Crisp to be a hot topic during the upcoming winter meetings in December.

Tribe signs Japanese Millionaire Mercenary

Hey DQ, wtf is this? I guess if you can't beat 'em - join 'em. :p

DETROIT (Reuters) - The Cleveland Indians have signed Japanese pitcher Masahide Kobayashi on a two-year contract, the Major League Baseball team said on Tuesday.

One of only three pitchers in the history of Japanese professional baseball to record more than 200 saves, the 33-year-old Kobayashi became a free agent earlier this month.

The right-hander has spent the last nine seasons with Chiba Lotte Marines in the Japanese Pacific League where he averaged over 30 saves in each of his last seven campaigns.

Kobayashi made 49 relief appearances for Chiba Lotte last season, going 2-7 with a 3.61 ERA and 27 saves.

"The signing of Masahide Kobayashi marks the first contract ever signed by a Japanese professional baseball player into the Cleveland Indians franchise," Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said in a statement.

"More importantly, it accomplishes one of our primary off-season goals of adding depth to the back-end of our bullpen. Masa has pitched and succeeded at the highest level and should be a valuable addition to our bullpen."

A member of the Japanese Olympic baseball team in 2004, Kobayashi has a career record of 36-34 with 227 saves and an ERA of 2.79 in 303 games.

He is the only Japanese professional pitcher to record 20 or more saves for seven consecutive seasons, doing so from 2001 to 2007.

I read the same story. Even bottom quartile salary
teams can play the asia game, eh! I bet we paid
him less than your prospects.

Our area of operations has been the Latins from
Venezuela, et al have been the big payday for us.

I wonder if there are any Chinese prospects out there.
Start sending scouts to the Little League WS every year, if they already don't do it. Some of these pitchers from the far east are a little big for their.....ahem ..... age. Remember that American kid from a few years back who got busted for being overage. He should have known not to drive his Porsche to the games. ;)
