Just thought that I'd start a new thread for the offseason.

Begining with MLBTradeRumors, here is the list of their top 50 free agents with predictions of where they'll land. Apparently Yu Darvish and David Ortiz will by Jays next year.

Also, many predict that Prince Fielder will be a Jay.
I may be convinced that one will sign, but the Jays will not spend the money for both Ortiz and Fielder.
Darvish ? If he is what they think he is, that would be nice. Jays sorely need a number 1 or 2 type starter.

The Blue Jays have an ace, but could use a terrific #2 starter, Darvish appears to meet those qualifications nicely.
I would be shocked if Fielder ended up in Toronto, his likely landing spots include St. Louis and the north side of Chicago.

If the Jays go after anyone, it will probably be a pitcher or two, or three

Ortiz is too old for his hefty price tag and Prince will just be too expensive.

So much for that secret handshake deal when McDonald was traded...

D'Backs To Sign McDonald To Two-Year Deal
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 2 at 6:34pm CST]

The Diamondbacks announced that they've agreed to terms with defensive specialist John McDonald on a two-year deal. Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com says the deal is worth $1.5MM per season (on Twitter). McDonald provides the Diamondbacks with insurance for Stephen Drew, who missed much of 2011 with a fractured ankle.

McDonald joined the D'Backs along with Aaron Hill in the August trade that sent Kelly Johnson to Toronto. The 37-year-old didn't do much at the plate this past season, hitting .229/.269/.308, but he's known as a defensively skilled player at second, short and third.

I agree with the opinions regarding Ortiz. I like him as a hitter, but that one-dimension is not a fit for this Toronto roster. They need to have a little flexibility in the DH position (which I mentioned here when they signed Frank Thomas) and Ortiz's price tag makes it a no-brainer that they not sign him. Let him return to Boston where they are used to having a DH that cannot play the field. The Jays need the DH spot to get a variety of players at-bats as they develop or need a rest.

If I were GM of the Jays and had the key to the vault ...

- if I could get him on my term(length), at the money he possibly would settle for, I would sign Albert Pujols(31) to four, no more then five, years. Pujols and Lind could play first / DH.
I hear Pujols is looking for seven / nine year contract.

- I would consider Prince Fielder(27) if I could not get Pujols. I would be less likely to sign Fielder long term. Something about big men, carrying all that weight just does not sit well with me.

- I would take a long, long look at Jose Reyes(28), meaning I would see if he, or Escobar, could(would) play second or third.

- kick the tires on Johnny Damon(37) for a one or two year deal.

- take a good look at Roy Oswalt. If he passes a physical, I would consider giving him anything for two years.

Miami Marlins Uniforms Leaked

Here is the leaked photo.... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/fl-miami-marlins-new-uniforms-1111,0,7083894.story

LOL. Who designed and then approved these? It was always a toss up for me on 'who' had the ugliest uniforms in the Majors... Not anymore, the Miami Marlins are by far the worst. Sucks for them. They were ready to lure all these big name free agents and now they'll all balk once they get-a-load of what they may have to wear. They should have waited to unveil these until March. They are terrible!!!

I like the stylized Marlin by the M .the colour scheme though I don't know what they are going for there...

I guess the Marlin looks alright, but that colour scheme is too awful to notice any positives.

Gotta say that's a big upgrade for the Phils. It looks like the Jays are interested in their castoff Ryan Madson. Please no!
The Jays have stockpiled a lot of young arms. How nice would it be to take a few of them and see if they can develop a closer from inside the organization. No losing talent in a trade, no big bucks for a FA,

I said before the season started last year that the Red Sox would miss the leadership of Mike Lowell (is it true he has only one ball?). Once again, I am right as the Sox missed the playoffs. Is Mike Lowell manager material? Actually, what is Mike Lowell doing now?

Pretty good Jays farm system review here.
Looks like Jays have one of the top 4 or so farm systems again this year. Nice strength in pitching department especially.

Deck McGuire is ranked all the way down at #7 for pitchers.
Some people think that his fastball lacks movement and because of this he'll be devoured by MLB hitters and end up at best a #5 starter or more likely a middle reliever.

Blue Jay trade.

For the second year in a row the Jays have traded for an Angels catcher. This time it appears they will hold on to him. The Jays traded lefty Brad Mills for catcher Jeff Mathis.

Just looked at his profile. He better be damn good defensively as he shows little offensively.
If he can help the pitchers and give Arencebia some defensive tips it will be a win. Mills didn't
appear to have a future here.
