Look at the street view, the water is very close to the road. They would not need to have been going that fast. Just one facebook message at 70 kph and they would have been in the drink.
Yes, when I come up to fence on streetview I can see that. It looked further from the other side of the intersection.
It is possible that they went through the light, drove over a bit of grass, crashed through a fence, over more grass, then splash.
Unless this was 2am I'm not sure how they could do that without anyone seeing! Wouldn't someone notice a car doing all of the above?
Even if it happened without someone seeing, wouldn't someone call the police later about a giant flattened piece of fence with tire tracks going to it?
Seems too suspicious to be an accident. This sounds like it was on purpose to me.
The tire tracks into the lake will give the answer. Sounds like they met someone nearby then they were pushed into the lake or something.

Word is both brothers got out of the car but swam the wrong way. The hypothesis is the cold water and hit from air bag confused them and they drowned. Sad all around. The brother said neither was a strong swimmer.
I thought the same thing, but now that I look at it, that fence is pretty much invisible in the dark. I wonder if they were driving a bit fast, texting, possibly tired or had a drink or two, etc. They maybe sped up for a yellow light and blew through the intersection thinking there was a road ahead. Maybe their judgement was off because they were focused on beating the light.
I am surprised how poorly thought out that is, it would take NO TIME for someone with a backhoe to grade a berm to prevent any cars from going into the pond. Of course you can argue you should not drive into the pond, but hey, SOMEONE is gonna do it.

A talk show went over this. The fence was put up but it's not that strong or big enough. There are no dead end signs until now (after this accident).
Admittedly, after looking at the Google Map images, I can't understand how they could crash through the intersection. Sounds fishy to me.
