It's unfortunate that beyond the golf issues Mike has had that he is also dealing with some significant family issues. Did not hear he was divorced until today.

Wish him the best, and maybe the time away will allow his body and golf game back on track.

Mike is such a great guy. I've had the pleasure meeting him on two occasions. Super down to earth and so generous with his time. He does a lot of charitable work. Hopefully he can get his family issues taken care of.

wow...

See I find this very surprising because from what I've seen of the guy, he seems like the type of husband that so easy to get along with, hard to picture what went wrong in the marriage. Whenever I saw him and wife on t.v, they just looked like the type of couple that you don't picture getting a divorce.

Sad to hear of his family situation. Really nice guy from my very limited interaction with him (15 years ago at the charitable event in Halifax where he played against Gretzky, Hull and Lemieux). We kind of forget that he isn't exactly a youngster anymore in the golf world at 45 years old. With his arm issues, I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't bother coming back to touring golf and focuses on his course design and other business interests.

Hardly shocking that what is presented to the public is not the same as the real life situation. Anybody who thinks he knows what a person is like by what he is fed through the media is very naive.

Zactly.....plus can someone take a leave if no one would have noticed if they were gone?

I think I read somewhere that his wife was battling mental illness - but then again you can't believe everything you read. He has custody of their two daughters.

I remember a few years ago a mentally ill wife/mother killed her husband and one or two of her kids. maybe it is best that Mike has custody of the two girls and is presumably living apart from his wife.

Not saying this would have happened to Mike and the kids (see article) but you never know. That is one of the risks of living with a mentally ill person. (Actually that is one of the risks of living with any person.)

One of my friends actually knew that family and she said they seem so happy on the outside.

Seems like Mike is well liked by the people in this thread. McCowan on the fan has a big hate on for Weir. Says he turned into an arrogant ass shortly after winning the Masters. Like shack said, the vast majority of us only know what we are fed through the media. On another note, I read about a private poll among PGA players about the least popular player on tour, the winner, Bubba Watson, came as a surprise to me. I imagine we know nothing about what goes on behind the ropes and in the clubhouse and locker rooms.
