Midlife Crisis .... for women?

I have always doubted that women go through a midlife crisis because of a different set of priorities. Women tend to be maternal, security conscious, family oriented (in general). Unlike guys who start to panic in their 40s.

I have recently met a woman who in my opinion fits the classic midlife crisis definition. She left her husband, who she says was boring and acting old. She started wearing 300 dollar designer jeans, she ditched her family car to buy a jeep wrangler. She can have sex all night laced with champagne and Rihanna songs.
Yet until now she lived a life of a good wife, mother and otherwise conservative lifestyle.

I believe women go through midlife crisis also, what do you think?

I think this happens when people start to realize that they really don't live forever.

You know, like being a stifled clone of society so that people think that you've 'made it somewhere'... Keeping up appearances until you finally realize that you've been wasting the presumed 'best years of your life' away.

Sounds like she's frantically trying to replace those years that she may have felt were lost. Glad I'm figuring this stuff out early...

Yes, I think the thought of having wasted best years of your life may trigger this. I guess the key is for the hubby to recognize the signs and become part of reliving your youth. However, in many cases that doesn't work.

You are correct. She did marry young, she had a kid early. I'm not sure if she is going to regret it in a few years, she has her own job, won't be getting alimony or support. If you are thinking emotional regret, I'm not sure...


I have another theory, couples go through a stage in life raising kids. Once they finish raising kids and are empty nesters they feel like they are onto another stage in life.
And, unless they have had a passionate marriage during their child rearing years (and who really does?) they will drift apart. If the financial aspect wouldn't be so significant I would think that there would be a lot more women leaving their hubbies in their 40s.

A good friend of mine's wife did this after 23 years of marriage. He's a really nice guy too. Got a boy toy, divorced the husband, married the boy toy, parties everyday. It's been 5 years their kids are grown up and him having to pay his wife 70K a year for 5 years is coming to an end. Needless to say reality is about to hit her hard. He's never bad mouthed the wife to the kids but the kids are complaining about their mother being an retard.

That's one hell of a severance package!
