Michelle Wie. Why should we care

Just saying. Isn't it time the golf media put this story to rest. Forget about trying to play on the men's tour, I doubt she could compete on the hooter's tour right about now. I enjoy playing and watching golf. I am in awe of the male players on the PGA tour. I learn just as much watching the LPGA tour because I can relate to their approach to the game. Many is the time I'm hitting a fairway wood at 200 yards just like the ladies. But when the constant story is Michelle Wie scoring yet another 80+ round, isn't she becoming a joke? I'm fed up of hearing how great she is or going to be. Give it a rest, Wie are tired of it.

She's a spoiled kid with bad golf etiquette too, flash in the pan, another Sergio, if she was that special she would have done something unusually great by now.

You can't compare Sergio and Michelle Wie... Sergio has actually won something (Ryder Cup). Maybe Anna Kournikova and Michelle Wie is a more appropriate comparison... they both have the look the media and public want... but not the talent to win anything.

Paris Hilton?

Anyway, didn't we have to sit through the obligatory Laurie Kane update on all the sprots shows for like three years before she won anything? I'd rather have a Michelle Wie update than a Laurie Kane update...

Did Wie have the same opportunity to win a team championship that Garcia had? I can't remeber.

I don;t agree that the Kournikova analogy is totally accurate. Wie did have some excellent finished in tough, well attended tournaments before hitting the skids. Didn't she get a pretty good ranking considering the small amount of tournaments she was restricted too?

Anyway, it seems she's more interested in being a teenager and semi-celebrity than working on her golf, since her performance has gotten much worse.

Some people will question the wisdom of letting her play professionally so young. But then some people asked the same questions about Gretzky in the IHL at 17 or NBA'ers coming out of High School.

Bottom line is it depends on the character of the individual if they're going to use the experience to get better, or to let it all go to their head. If she didn't turn pro, there is no guarantee she wouldn't have lost focus anyway, so it's a good thing they made a lifetime's worth of money while they could.

Missing the cut by one shot on the PGA tour at 14.

Being ranked the best second women's golfer in the world at the age of 16. Pretty damn special.

Some of the hicks here have been salivating at the potential for her to fail at some time, without realizing that she deserved alot of the attention she was getting,

Some of you think the story is she still sucks. She was in fact an outstanding golfer at one time.

If shr was just playing average right now there would be no story... the story is how she has completely fallen apart. How she peaked at 16, and has completely lost it, a la David Duval.

'Missing the cut'.....'Being ranked'.........neither are accomplishments, just because someone else ranks you somewhere doesn't mean anything, nobody remembers her almost making the cut somewhere....................Sergio is a flash in the pan, fact is, rightly or wrongly, the Americans don't care about the Ryder cup, which makes Sergios' accomplishments absolete.

Why have a team event in an idividual sport, the Davis cup in tennis is riveting, nobody knows when it starts or when it ends and nobody cares. Majors in these sports is all that anyone remembers or cares about.

She's old news. The Women's Open started yesterday and the press was all over the story of the 12 year old girl from Florida, Lexi Thompson, who was entered. She is getting lots of press but I'd imagine the fact that she is white and blonde has absolutely nothing to do with it. They mentioned something like 20-25 girls under 19 playing the women's Open this weekend.

Wie tanked a while back while trying to play through a wrist injury.

She's a long hitter and is still in the mind set of long is best. She will eventually realize position is best for the shot to the green. She's young and she is VERY VERY good.

i hate michelle wie she should win something in lpga before she think she's good enough to play with guys. I would like to see the number 1 woman get to play in masters or something though! but not michell sh just finishes last and gets embarassing.
Annika in her prime a few years ago played in a PGA event. She didn't make the cut (but played respectably)

Wie, as much as she is embarassing herself right now, has the potential to compete with the men more than any other woman simply because of her ability to hit with the men. However we'll have to see if Wie can get herself straightened out (mentally more than physically) to ever reach that potential. Both her and her parents arrogance is a big barrier right now.

Well kickitoldschool, Wie's not winning this one.

She just backed out of this years' womens US open. Wie hasn't broken par in 23 consecutive rounds and she withdrew in early June from a tourney where she came close to shooting an 88.

She is no shape to compete with either the men or the women right now -she needs to take time off to heal that wrist and get her head straightened out.
