To choose the right men's shoes, you need to know how to use them correctly in the store. We advise you to follow a few rules. Come to the store in the evening. By this time of day, the foot will have the maximum size. And subsequently, the shoes will not wait. Try on a future purchase on both legs. The fact is that often people have feet of different sizes. It would help if you chose those suitable shoes for a larger foot. Don't standstill. Walk around the store in new yeezy or boots. Nothing should stop you from moving. If you order shoes from the Internet, then specify your size.

Consider shopping in person at stores like Sloans Shoes. Salesmen know what they are selling.

Yes, good shoes cost, but worn on alternate days so leather and cotton etc can dry out and they will last for many years if you do modest maintenance on them.

I had a good pair of hiking boots that I just tossed last year after the vibram sole finally got too stiff from age and split. I would treat the leather regularly spring to scrub salt out and fall just prior to first snow.

The uppers were restitched twice, the sole to upper three times, at least 4 sets of laces, but I wore them for winter boots in Toronto when weather was too foul for shoes and summer trail boots for 24 years. Paid almost $300 for them 24 years ago, plus likely $80 at the shoe maker, but on a per year basis still cheap.

If you are in Toronto, go see Nick. He will measure you properly and build you a great pair of shoes that are classic, sturdy and stylish. 3 month wait list, will cost you about $600.

I’ve been wearing his Gentleman's shoe for 7 yrs now. Beautiful shoes.

SO you come here for advice. Strange that las week I was watching shoemakers on youtube.

I suggest you look in youtube vid for shoe makers in Canada. I started with Most Expensive Korean Hiking boots. Found another one in Ohio. You be surprised what you find in Youtube.

I have here links for you for local Shoe makers.

When it comes to finding the perfect suit, I've always been a bit of a snob. I'm not one of those people who will buy whatever is on sale or even just grab something that looks good and fits well I have to have the best quality possible. I've found that my favorite place to shop for suits, and they have this collection. They have a huge selection of high-quality suits, and they always have sales. Their salespeople are always so helpful and friendly, too! I am very delighted with the quality and the price.

Dack's Shoes went out of business in 2009. They have returned as Matthewdack. They are an old Canadian company that started back in 1834.
I bought a pair of their shoes many years ago for $200, an outrageous price back then. The shoes were of exceptionally high quality. The salesman advised me to return the shoes when they needed repair or resoling. Hence, a pair of their shoes could last essentially forever. However, the price has increased in the 40 years since I bought my first pair to the $500 and up range.
Highly recommended for their service and quality.

from what Ive seen out there the selection tends to be typical old man shoes, which definitely is not my style. its the more fashionable and unique shoes Im looking for. anyone know of stores that would carry such selection? Ive been to browns which is a good start but it someone knows of a shop that carries less old men shoes and more fashionable artistic selections please let me know.

thanks

Harry Rosen. I'm assuming you'd lean towards the Italian brands then.

For fresh unique styles, check out Parc City. They’re more everyday fun/casual though, as opposed to high end/formal.

Good quality, made in Portugal but nowhere near Brown’s or Rosen’s.

I’m size 14/15 so my ready-made options are limited, it’s become my go-to, although the selection is vastly reduced since the pandemic.

If you take accordian lessons and buy one of those brocade tuxedos you will never be unemployed. Myron Floren knew how to dip that left hand to make all the ladies swoon.

And now back to shoes. I buy Allen Edmonds shoes because they are available in EEE. Shoes.com is good for the rubber soled informal shoe in extended sizes.

What has been ruined over the years is shoe polish. Liquid shoe polish is a complete disaster. They took away the glass bottle with the ball type dauber and replaced it with a foam top that dries out and becomes useless after a few weeks. The liquid scuff cote was only good for small cuffs but it was also usefull for doing the outside edge of the sole. Esquire and Kiwi commited marketing suicide with the foam top plastic container liquid where the foam applicator quickly degrades. The wooly round dauber attatched to the underside of the bottle lid was an idea that worked. The round tin wax type polishes from Kiwi and Esquire are not what they used to be, hard to find, and available in few colors. The tan is too dark and ruins tan shoes.

The best shoe polish I have found is Moneypenny and Best shoe cream on Amazon. It even smells great. It is available in a full spectrum of colors. The Scotch color is perfect for Allen Edmonds tan shoes that are a warm tan.The dark brown is good for brown sole edges. The black also works well. They also have dark navy and cordovan. I have not tried Saphire polish.

I have wanted to try Herring and Loake shoes in the UK, but I feel a certain loyalty to Allen Edmonds. I usually buy on their sales. They do their own recrafting but I have never used that service. I also install rubber heel guards avaiable by the bag on Amazon on the outside back edge of the rubber heels on every pair of new shoes. Periodic replacement of the heel guards means you will never need to replace the rubber heels.

Im really not loyal to anyone. more so I like what I like and want a well constructed shoe that is very stylish. I went to a harry rosen shop probably 15 years ago and didnt see anything that piqued my fancy. Ill check in again and see if they have updated their products. thanks.
