On the road with Willy
I've been kicking the tires for the last month or so.
Strikes me as a cool car to tool around in and the ladies like it to.
Anybody have one out their? How do you like it? Would you recommend it?

Drivers car.
I used to have an NA (89 model) that I took to mosport
So much fun to drive, the parts are so cheap too, decked out the suspension, brakes, wheels (15" lol), rubber, hard top, basically everything except a turbo but I feel that would ruin the character of the car and I don't know how to mod engines (this was a Project car)

Are you looking at the new one?

I was very keen on the latest version Miata. My wife was very keen on a bright yellow 4 door Wrangler Sahara. She won this round. The top and doors come off. I must admit... The Wrangler is a fun toy for tooling around in, both summer and winter. No regrets about not having the Miata

Glad you like the wrangler. A friend has one in the Plum Crazy. He loves it and it also seems to have some draw with the ladies much to his wife's displeasure.

Personally I think the new miatas are overpriced. I spent 5k on my track miata... The new one is 25k more expensive and offers not much more besides a better looking refreshed body.

For 30k... You're looking at Porsche territory if you want a sports car :)

Wranglers are very fun too! But I like my light sports cars

Here
The ladies like it, for themselves.
Buy a Miata and you may as well leave the condoms at home, you won't be needing them.
You mean the ladies get so excited over them them that they get very hot and bothered and insist on bareback?

LOL!

The Miata has always done very well in magazine test reports, crash tests, with JD Powers quality evaluations. etc. My neighbour (60 year old male) loves his. I've driven it and find the fit, finish, handling and feel quite pleasing. IMHO, it's a bit underpowered, but I'm a acceleration freak and would probably find a rocket car underpowered. ;-) Not sure where the "chick car" image came from, but unfortunately that image has really stuck.

Since you've repeatedly stated money is not a problem for you; have you thought about a Porsche Boxster or Audi TT? Alternatively a corvette or BMW M-series convertible?

There's a reason it's one of the most raced automobiles in the world. The Mazda MX-5 is a driver's car, plain and simple. Not because it's a chick car. It's plenty quick (0-60 in 5.8 sec.) but the steering, brakes, 6-speed shifter are all perfectly matched and it's a blast to drive. So have fun with it notthemama and don't listen to the uninformed.

Buy it and turn in your man card.
Think what you will but it's not based on fact.

Busting the myth of the Mazda MX-5 Miata as a chick-car.

Let your narrow opinions guide you if you like, but the Mazda Miata is a car overwhelmingly owned by men.

The Mazda Miata has a reputation on-line and off as a “girl’s car.” Even some auto writers make this statement assuming that because they think it is true, it is. But is it? Not according to Mazda. We reached out to Mazda directly and simply asked “What percentage of Miata owners are men?” The answer is 66%, dramatically higher than the average for automobiles overall, which a variety of sources say is within single digits of 50-50.

Two-thirds of Miata’s Bought By Men
If fully two thirds of Miata owners are men, then why does this popular track car have the reputation as a “woman’s car?” One reason I come up with is that men dominate auto writing, and they overwhelmingly are muscle car, and super car enthusiasts, which are actually bought in a higher percentage by men. A recent comment under one of our stories piqued our interest in this topic. Auto Motive writes “As I have stated in many articles concerning the Miata, it is a car gravitating to the women consumer. Most men wouldn't be caught dead in one.”

I must be different than most men because I take every opportunity I can get to drive the Miata and owned a Gen3 for many years. At press events where automakers bring a variety of cars, the Miata is often one of the most popular cars and difficult to get seat time in.

Just as a point of reference, more men buy the Mazda Miata than the Mazda6, which has 60% male buyers according to Mazda. Who knew Mazda was such a macho brand?

Who Buys Other Types Of Cars
We cover the Lexus IS and RC line very closely here at Torque News. Lexus says that the new Lexus IS, which is a smashing success for the company, is trending more male. Now the company says, 56% of Lexus IS sedan buyers are men, which is up from prior years. The muscular RC 350 and RC F are expected to follow the same demographic trend. This means that Miata owners are 10% more male than this very popular line of modern Lexus sports sedans and coupes.

What Are the Top Cars For Female Buyers?
According to a study by TrueCar in 2010 (well into the Miata’s third generation,) the Miata does not even make the top 10 cars purchased by females as a percentage of overall ownership. Those female favorites include the Volkswagen New Beetle, Kia Spectra, Nissan Rogue, Volkswagen Eos, Hyundai Entourage, Volvo S40, Jeep Compass, Honda CR-V, Nissan Sentra, and Hyundai Tucson.

Call the Miata what you like, but the fact remains that it is one of the most raced automobiles in the world and has been for decades. If you think that "real men" only buy big trucks and showy muscle cars there is a stereotype about the men that drive those types of vehicles we can whisper to you that is not really appropriate for a family publication. We think you have probably heard it, and no, TrueCar does not have any study on that.

You can take the doors off a Miata too with a wrench.

I'm secure enough in my sexuality to not worry about what a few idiots may think. This isn't grade 7 anymore.
I have the GTs and the Challenger to crush anyone who insists on it.
I just want a nice little car to run around town in that gets good mileage and is fun to drive.
Even though the Flex is a great vehicle, it's a little stodgy at times.
And even though you may think the Miata is a gay person's vehicle there's nothing wrong with that. Right?
At least the Ford nation won't be bothering me.

I read the demographic that buys the majority of Miatas is white men over 50. I fall squarely into that one.
The demographic for all sports cars is "white men over 50". For some reason, this demographic can't handle losing their hair, erections and masculinity.
