Its a pittance compared to the amount of hours politicians put in. How many CEO's would accept that amount after spending years and years with the same corporation. Christ, some of us here spend more than that in a year on tarts.

I'm gonna run for office. I want to be the supreme dictator of TERB and all the ladies must cater to my every desire in lieu of payment for me. In lieu of payment for the ladies, I'll be a really, really, kinky little fucker! LMAO.

In case you're wondering, yes, I'm a real smartass. But, I do have a dream!

If I won the supermax. I'd play with each woman on terb at least once. Whew. See, I'm still trying to run for office.

If I won the lottery, I build a sky-scraper condo downtown just for everyone to have incalls. LMAO.

One month per year of service is pretty standard for people in highly specialized jobs. It is common in the private industry; it is what I'd expect to get if I lost my job. The idea is that highly specialized people can't just apply to any job, it takes some time to find something equivalent, versus say, someone quitting a job at McDonalds who could probably get hired the next day at Burger King.

That said I think that the public sector in general provides ridiculous pensions and other benefits both for public employees and for managers/officials--this instance just doesn't seem to be one of them.

He quit. I'm a CEO , if I quit I wouldn't get any severance.

If you were the CEO of a company with as many employees and size of business of the city of Toronto...believe me you would get a hell of a lot more than Miller is getting after the time he has been on council, and as mayor.

My bet is that he will get a hell of a lot more after just sitting on boards.

You have to look at the whole package...salary plus severance plus pension...and what politicians get is peanuts compared to people in similar positions in the private sector - in positions of similar responsibility.

So...if you want people with absolutely no ability to run things...just lower the overall compensation for politics a bit more. Then you will get no one except the losers to run. Its almost that way now I think. Regular federal and provincial politicians make less than most plumbers as it is now. So for those that left real jobs with real pay to run for politics, and real public service, the least we can do is give them a decent pension. BTW...I'm not a politician, furtherst thing from it. But I do believe that if we don't pay our politicians decently we will continue to get worse and worse as a country.
If ant ceo of a company with the budget and payroll of the city of Toronto ran things the way this mayor did he would be out on his ass with no severance... think GM

The argument that you ahve to pay exceptional wages to get good people in public office is self serving bullshit propogated by the people in office who want the raise. Take a good look at council in Toronto or anywhere in the GTA for that matter. You have at best second rate ego maniacs who either can not or will not live in the private sector.

The only exception is when somebody retires from private life and runs for public office out of a sense of responsibility. Please note I am not shilling for John Tory here, I appreciate the effort the man put into trying to get elected but people in a whole bunch of ridings have spoken.

Back to the current crop with a few exceptions they would not be able to make a living at anything like their current salaries in the private sector, nobody would hire them toi run a poop and scoop operation.

Here endeth the rant

????...your joking right. Ever hear of the term "Golden Parachute"? CEO's are are notorious for screwing up a company and walking away with millions. What miller got was a pittance in comparison

So the private sector never has any ego-maniacs? ...So if money isnt what it taked to get good people in office ..then what is it? If salaries were being compared to the private sector based on budget and payroll the Mayor would be getting millions of dollars more ...so why are you complaining?
