I bought a new truck recently and got that mastershield rustproof for a thousand bucks. Starting to have second thoughts not sure how effective it is.

Does anyone have experience with this product? Any info would be appreciated.

When you lease a vehicle, strictly speaking, it still belongs to the dealership. AFAIK, they don't rustproof unless you're willing to pay for it, even though they may get it back.

Just saying.

I keep my cars for 5 years, I have never bought dealer or franchised rust protection. I go to Canadain Tire and buy a can of Rust Check and spray it in the weep holes under the car doors and if you can get inside the front car fenders by removing the flasher assembly. ( the place above the wheels are the most important ). I know people with 15 year old cars that do this and do not have rust problems. The can cost $12 and will last you for 5 years if you apply it once a year. Spray it in a 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 1:30 and 3:00 o'clock pattern into each weep hole in the door.

You probably could have gotten the Dealer to discount that by 50%; and the Dealer would have still made a profit on it.

The margins on anything the "Business Manager" offers you are absolutely stupid.

Like Ceiling Cat said, you could have probably rustproofed your car yourself for $12.

The Business Manager probably rolled the $1,000 for the mastershield rustproof into your auto loan....Dealers prefer that you finance so that they can sell you garbage products.

Did you take a 96 month financing term in addition to the rustproofing? How about an extended warranty?

Fuck, I hate Auto Dealers.

Wise words Ceiling Cat; unfortunately a little too late for Bigdaug by the sounds of it.

There is no need to ever rust proof any modern vehicle. Ever.

Modem vehicles all undergo extensive corrosion proofing at the factory. The entire vehicle is submerged and electro- galvanized and every nook and cranny is corrosion proofed. Then its primered with an epoxy primer.

Spraying goo on your vehicle is going to do nothing, maybe even lead to corrosion because the dirt will stick to the goo. And it will usually void your factory corrosion warranty. And if you don't take your car in for an annual maintenance at the undercoating joint, you void that warranty.

The best thing you can do is no goo and wash your car to keep it clean.
