Sometimes parks and sports fields are built on dodgy earth bearing soil. due to aquifers or prior use as in mining spoil piles or as landfills.
Would be curious to hear of the details here once they come out.

There a potential catastrophic sinkhole brewing right here in the GTA...but only a few know about it...being kept quite hush hush

Could be referring to the new subway extension
.I was blown away by the tall floodlight which disappeared straight down such that you can't even see the top of the light in the fly over.
Read more in the paper of a day ago or so.
The sports field was located over a still active limestone mine.
So basically a mine cave in that reached the surface.
Now the lighting pole was almost in the center of the sink hole.
So the point loading of the pole foundation may have played a role in the ground collapse.
Now it is time for the different insurers to fight it out as to who is on the hook to get both the mine and sports field going again
