The renovations were expensive, the final bill came out to $180 million, with federal, provincial and municipal kicking in. And finally patrons like yours truly who love the old hall and wanted it restored.

City Hall was worried that with Covid - 19, patrons would be hesitant to return. The first show I say there was Max Webster in 1978, one of the most memorable was Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 1992. Gordon Lightfoot put on an excellent show - even thought his voice is now an octave higher - age has taken away his burnished timbre. Waiting for Neil Young to make his triumphant return.

Take it away Johnny Strides.

Gordon Lighfoot is 83 now.

Johnny Strides got it wrong, he doesn't live on the Bridal Path, he lives in Rosedale with a summer home in Orillia.

I wasn't living in Toronto during the major part of my life when I saw a lot of concerts. I saw Siouxsie and the Banshees there in 1986 and Tom Waits on the Frank's Wild Years tour in 1987 - that's the same tour as the Big Time live album and concert film.

A few years ago, I was walking by Massey Hall on the night of a concert, and I saw a guy scalping tickets. I asked him who was playing, and he named some band that probably appeals to art college students. I said "I've never heard of them". He said "Neither have I".

LOL, I was at that concert!, I also saw them there in '89 or was it '90 for the "Peep Show" Tour, local band "National Velvet opened up for them. Siouxsie faked everyone out , the crowd was dressed in black, the band was dressed in black, but she wore a white lingerie type outfit, lol

The only other show I saw there was "New Order" circa '86.

NO would have been amazing in that space.

I saw Tory Amos, and Kathleen Madigan w/ Louis Black in 2016 or 17. Front row balcony both times.

I have the Siouxsie & The Banshees concert from Rock Goes to College on video, from 1981 and at least two others on that list, possibly more.

I have a bootleg DVD of Neil Young at Massey Hall. I'll post it somewhere online as a compressed video sometime soon, where you can see it or download a copy to keep. It's amateur video, shot from the audience.

I mentioned that in May:

I'm hoping to have a link to see it posted before the end of the year.
The vinyl release of that concert is breathtakingly real. It’s as if you are on stage with him.

That's really cool. I'd love to have a copy of it. Neil's '71 concert at Massey Hall was recorded but never filmed. It's a great recording though. The sound quality is excellent. What I found amazing was that nobody had ever heard a lot of the songs he performed. So there's no applause when announces the titles of the songs he was about to play. I bought the DVD when it was first released.

I love Massey Hall and make it a point of going to see every band I like who plays there. I've been to more shows there than I can count.

I love the Grand old Hall as well, had I been a younger man I'd have worked on the restoration.

Jim and Sam mock trashed Canada, Ari Shaffir will play the Hall in March. Here he is promoting his gig.

You guys will be amazed by some of what I have in my video collection. I think I can post just about anything on 4shared.com, IF I use dummy file names. I had two uploads flagged for copyright claim on there: The TV show OZ, and Mike Tyson Mysteries. If I name the Neil Young show something like 'NYMH2011', no one will find it accidentally in search, and because it will be my own DVD rip, no program will flag it by file size, as is often the case on YouTube. I'll only be posting them to provide links for this board; I don't want maximum views. Many of the videos on my YouTube channel have very few views, because I don't make it easy to find them.

Here's a link to my YouTube channel, if anyone wants to see the ones that are available for public viewing, (there are quite a few that only I can see; I'm still trying to find a way to post links to the blocked videos in forums, the way I did that in 2016/17 no longer works).

A few personal favorites from my channel:

L:ast show I caught at Massey Hall was Blue Rodeo.

It was bittersweet because Gord Downie from the Tragically Hip came out to join them for an encore of 'Lost Together' a few months before he passed away.

Seeing him was incredibly heartbreaking but I still had to admire him for performing right up until the end.

I've been lucky enough to see Jethro Tull, Pat Metheny, and Loreena McKennitt perform there. All of them fantastic.

Well, Massey Hall is about half the capacity of the Royal Albert Hall so by process of elimination about 2000 holes...
Saw Billy Connolly at Massey Hall, we were sat right up in the gods and I think the seats were original. All I remember of the show was my sides aching from laughter and the increasing paralysis in my legs.
