I think most people would, but then again most of us probably are not a public figure or in the public spotlight like Martha Stewart. And again a lot of us may not have as much tied up in a single stock.

Ironicly it is illegal to profit from insider tips unless you first go public with the information. Then it could be ok.

Rules are written to protect the small investors. Not the COE and major players.

Ironically considering the consequences of her action the amount she had tied up in the stock was insignificant. She sold $228,000 in stock and averted approximately $51,000 in losses. Since at the time she was worth around a billion it seems pretty ridiculous to commit a crime for such a paultry portion of her vast fortune. I could see if she had the bulk of her fortune tied up in this one stock.

You will find most extermly rich people know where every penny is. And do a good job at making more money. Even if at one dollar at a time.

All she should of said was MY stock broker told me "I think Imclone's stock is going to go down I think you should sell" and I said ok. They had to get complicated about it and get themselves caught. I also think she is being aggressively prosecuted for two reasons. Her nicey nice image leads to some people hating her and I think it serves as a smoke screen to distract us from Enron and Haliburton(sp?). And there deep links with Bush
