[Ponderling]

Thirty years ago we were camping our way out to Victoria on a three week September road trip vacation.

Mid week in southern Saskatechewan we were the only ones in the whole campground.

Grass was tall. Sun was setting, birds were chirping and whorling about as the heat of the day started to fade.
Dinner was finished and dishes done. Tent and bedding ready. Car mostly packed ready to go in the morning for another long day of driving.

Four deer had just leapt over a fence we were looking at while staring at the high clouds lit orange and pink by the setting sun.
I knew I was going to ask her to marry me on this trip, and that time and scene seemed pretty perfect.
We both can describe it well decades later.

Nothing huge but I surprised her with a ring on a normal Saturday night when she thought we were just hanging out

Then after she called her mom and spent an hour shaking and staring at her ring. I surprised her that we were going to the restaurant in the Beaches where we had our first date

Then when we arrived at the restaurant, she was shocked to see that all her best friends were there waiting for her

It was pretty epic for me who was a broke college student at the time.

Nice touch .. made her day even more special no doubt meeting up with friends to celebrate!

I had a similar experience when we were on our way up to visit her college friend who lived up around Bracebridge I stopped at a nice nature spot and surpised her with the proposal. Made the weekend special for sure when visiting good friends.
