Funniest thing is how the US media reported it with such genuine surprise, as though everyone hasn't known it for the past few years. You'd swear they really believed all her denials.

I am surprised by the fact she made the admission. Considering who she was married to, Marion would have a better chance than most to pass off the excuse she ingested them unintentionally through swallowing after BBBJTCIM.

Most dopers go to their graves lying their faces off about using performance enhancing drugs during their careers.

To be honest with you I kind of admire her for having the guts to stand up there and do what she's doing. That is not an easy thing to do.

I agree, yesterday when I watched the video I admired her and almost wanted to cry. She said she has no one to blame but herself and takes full responsibility for her actions which is a rarity now a days. You could hear the pain and embarrasment in her voice and even though she broke down she still spoke well and sincere. Soon she will be stripped of her medals and for the rest of her life she'll be looked upon as a cheater.

I feel sorry for her but rules are rules and she deserves everything she's getting. I respect her and forgive her it was a mistake. I wish her well.

Is it not odd that the full weight of the justice system is being used to determine if an athlete is using performance enhancing drugs to help them in a sporting event. How do the police become involved in judging the fairness of the 100 yard dash?

She did not have any option, either admit to doping, or go down for bank-fraud.

Jones 'fessed up because she realized the jig is up. She's a "has been" and threatened with the possibility of doing real time for fraud and lying to a congressional hearing - she didn't have a choice. As "genuine" as her confession was, it is almost in direct proportion to her press conferences of her denial.

Farking cheater -take the medals! If Track wants to be looked at seriously and considered a "sport" they should set an example.

The biggest joke is yet to come. Guess who will get one of her Gold medals. The Greek sprinter named Thanou. I can't wait to see THAT explode. I would also love to see how quickly SHE turns up to collect it when they tell her to come get it.

PS: Track & Field is already a sport and has been that since the beginning of time. I would say every sport has it's cheaters. Some more than others. That is a part of life. Some people cheat.

And you thought it just Ben Johnson and the Canadians while the Americans were pure.
Americans have been busted for a while now. This is just another notch in the belt. Remember, both her former husbands have been caught and she divorced them right after each bust. Other busted USA athletes include, but not limited to, Kelli White, Jerome Young & Justin Gatlin(World and Olympic Champion).

One thing is the Americans are JUST as bad as the Canadians. Did you see how quickly Ben went from a Canadian hero named Ben Johnson to 'Jamaican-born' Canadian Ben Johnson? Well, on the US news they are dragging out the fact that Marion's mother hails from Belize.

Too funny.

The justice system was interested in how illegal drugs were being distributed, not the results of track meets. Marion Jones lied under oath. That's what they nailed her.

At least we can still believe Floyd Landis. Oh yeah, and Barry Bonds.

ROTFLMAO...... Are you referring to Hunter?? I am not sure if she married Tim Drummond, but I think they have a kid together...

Yep.... I do love the genuine surprise reaction... How about the USOC and their pretense of innocence... The USOC was probably the brain trust behind BALCO in the first place...

She displayed no courage, she only confessed to avoid prison. After all her pious denials. At least Ben Johnson admitted it when they caught him, and even makes Cheetah commercials, I admire that more than Marion Jones or Mark McGwire.

Ben tested positive, Marion did not.

I liked what Garth Woolsey said in the Star today.

It's a standard script for the drug cheats:

Deny, deny, deny until the very end when you are totally cornered, then apologize and ask for forgiveness.

Ben was caught... Marion was not so she did not have to admit it... As you can see below... Marion probably tested positive, but the USOC might have buried those tests, and made sure that Marion had the "right" advice to prevent her from testing positive again.

The USOC admitted that Carl Lewis (who swore up and down that he was clean, and how he despised cheaters like Ben Johnson) had tested positive for banned substances.

In 2003, Dr. Wade Exum, the United States Olympic Committee's director of drug control administration from 1991 to 2000, gave copies of documents to Sports Illustrated which revealed that some 100 American athletes who failed drug tests and should have been prevented from competing in the Olympics were nevertheless cleared to compete. Among those athletes was Carl Lewis.

It was revealed that Lewis tested positive three times before the 1988 Olympics for pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine, banned stimulants also found in cold medication, and had been banned from the Seoul Olympics and from competition for six months. The USOC accepted his claim of inadvertent use and overturned the decision. Fellow Santa Monica Track Club teammates Joe DeLoach and Floyd Heard were also found to have the same banned stimulants in their systems, and were cleared to compete for the same reason.[69][70]

The positive results occurred at the Olympic Trials in July 1988 where athletes were required to declare on the drug-testing forms "over-the-counter medication, prescription drugs and any other substances you have taken by mouth, injection or by suppository."

i think it was pretty obvious for a long time she was a cheat but people didn't want to believe it. I mean, her husband was a known sterioid muncher connected to balco... doesn't take too much of a stretch to figure out. One thing a lot of people are overlooking too is that it's a pattern... what is bank fraud? cheating to get ahead. just like doping. so basically her pattern is that she'll cheat to get what she wants.

Ben Johnson is having the last laugh folks.
I wouldn't call it a last laugh as he is deriving no benefit.

It's more like "misery loves company".
