You can bet your ass some bleeding heart is going to blame the cops because the guy didn't have a chance to fire his weapon before he was killed.

Irrelevant. He pulled the gun for a reason.
Pull out a gun in front of a cop, or anybody else who also has a gun, you're going to get shot. People aim to kill, not to disable.
As an old adage... "if you point a gun at someone, be ready for a temperature test..." he cold now.
What's relevant is if the police officers shot him before or after they said "Put the gun down!".
The police chief said that he pointed the gun at officers. The SIU spokesperson said it's unclear whether he pointed the weapon at the officers.
We can assume that neither the police chief nor the SIU spokesperson was present at the incident. If, in fact the police officers were premature in their decision to use deadly force, one would not expect them to admit that, on the record.
My point is that we don't yet have enough evidence to determine whether or not it was a "good shoot".
A guy with a gun and ready to use it, shot dead = good shot.
This is why being a cop isn't easy....you're eating your donuts one day, next thing a guy pulls a gun out...
Within a week, a 16 year old pulls a gun on cops, and a 30 year old pulls a gun on cops. Both are shot dead.

The handgun ban IS working as intended… it’s just which version of “intent”. JT and his followers intend to disarm the people. That’s the first step in controlling a population.
(funny enough that in his original campaign, he said he would never infringe on Canadian gun owners!!)
