This would be impossible to do in Canada as it is too costly to ship anything. In the US you can ship a package to canada with delivery confirmation and tracking for less than half of what it costs to ship the same item from Canada to the US without delivery confirmation and tracking.

Agree that shipping costs are high, but don't underestimate the power of Ebay. I was making a decent living selling my goods the traditional way and after constant goading from my niece decided to give it a try. I tripled my annual revenue in less than 2 years and switched my entire niche product to something everybody takes for granted and was selling at ridiculously fast pace. I still put in 15 hour days, but that's just because I'm a nutjob with no life.

Making money on the internet is still possible, and quite simple...but it's not a "sit back and watch your money grow" deal. You still need to work and plan.

Agree! My friend stopped to sell things on Ebay. The shipping price is half from US. You can send a leather jacket from US for 65$ (insured+delivery confirmation). The buyer has to pay around 120$ for the same service from Canada. Otherwise the Ebay take 9% from the selling price and the paypal do almost the same when they change the US dollar or euro to CAD. The buyers doesn't like to high shipping cost because they pay for it so the canadapost kill his business slowly. The canadapost has almost the highest prices around the world and they always crying about their loss.

The good deals are outside of Canada on eBay and as Iris reiterated shipping costs can be downright ridiculous.

It's not only from Canada but from the US also.

I've been searching for some hearing aid batteries for my Dad and the prices on eBay are cheap compared to online retailers, and ridiculously cheap compared to local audiologists.

It had me thinking, if most of the stuff on eBay that are so cheap are all stolen from work etc or seconds that people pick up from work or counterfeits from China.

Anyone actually make a living by selling merchandise on ebay? Is it possible?
I have two acquaintances who make some decent money off of it, both at the same level. Neither utilize it for their primary income, they do evenings and weekends, and profit $30k - $40k per year.

The key to their success is that they are both deep experts in the field in which they sell. This mean that they have the expertise to consistently buy low & sell high, and that they genuinely enjoy what they are doing so that it is more of a hobby that happens to make money.
