People are slamming Madonna for investing in oil, paper and resource companies. Personally, I think you can invest in these companies and still be green. People forget that oil not only produces gasoline, but also other important chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics.... It's not up to the oil companies to change the world or your behaviour.

What's more disturbing is that she travels with an entourage of about a 100 people around the world for her concerts in private jets. Talk about carbon overload.

I don't think you can call yourself green by investing in oil and resource companies. You're either green or you're not. She could invest in companies that develop environmentally-friendly fuels,etc. Just another example of a hypocrit; no different than Al Gore or David Suzuki in my book. (BTW, my book is written on renewable paper)

There are oil derived products we use every day besides gasoline and we don't think twice about it, green or not green. You might as well move in with the Amish if you want to bypass oil.

Xdog, I don't think it is as simple as that. For eg: If you want to go to Europe, you have to fly else take a week long boat ride on a freighter.

Also, our society is based on the internal combustion engine, there's no real way of getting around that. Even if you only use an electric vehicle that electricity is generated by either nuclear, coal fired, or oil fired and a little bit of solar but maybe less than 1/10th of a percent.
