My 2011macbook pro battery died about 2 years ago. It should say at the top right corner if the power is at zero. I think if you click on it, it will tell you if it needs replacement. Now I just run it off power cord, and would not drop any more money into that garbage.

depending on how old your macbook is it may not be worth replacing the battery and just worth buying a new one.

apple will replace battery if the box is under warranty. u can do a warranty check online by plugging in serial number. if out of warranty suggest finding an apple certified repair shop to give a quote. they are cheaper then apple store by a wide enough margin

Some good advice for extending the life of laptop batteries

How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries

All laptop batteries can only be recharged 300-500 times. Then they go dead and have to be replaced.

From day 1, I followed the advice above on storing a laptop battery in that site and always pulled the battery out when laptop was plugged into the AC. By doing that I still get ~2½ hours out of my OEM Toshiba battery that is almost 8 yrs old.
Oh and that almost 8 year old Toshiba laptop running Vista and Linux still runs both OSs fine!..... :thumb:

You should/could consider third party battery manufacturers as well. That even have a higher capacity than the oem version

irepair.ca is one option. They have a few places in the GTA. I took my kid's iPhone in for battery replacement and was quite pleased, price and warrantee-wise.

If you have a Hard Drive based MacBook Pro (non-SSD) the battery is easily replaceable for under $200.
