By back is killing me.

Lower back.

I've had back problems once about 15 years ago which the doctor attributed to muscle problems, and some mild aches and pains here and there since every few years. Her answer at the time was that there was very little they can do for this sort of problem. I went to physio for a while, but, aside from the nice looking girl giving it, there didn't seem to be much benefit. Eventually it got better on its own.

This latest round occured on monday when at the office I merely was crouching down, then turned to pick something up on the floor and I felt a sudden pain in the lower back. I tried getting up and thrusting my hips forward, but to no avail. This week was tough, but I was still mobile during week, if barely. Getting into a car is a real challenge, you have to go in head first.

Last night, it got really bad. To the point where just trying to get out of bed was like someone sticking a sword in my back. To the point of thinking about calling an ambulance last night it was so fucking bad. Screaming out loud when I was trying to get out of bed to go to the can. Of course, if I could fall asleep, I'd wake up in 2 hours and need to go to the can again for some reason. I couldn't move to use the toilet, so the sink had to stand in.

Tried taking some robaxacette, or however you spell that, but it only suceeded in making me dizzy. This morning I am somewhat better, but a long way from right.

I used to think that guys who complained about sore backs were the biggest whiners out there. Now, I sympathize.

Any worthy words of experience out there on how to treat this?

From when I had my sore back and could not get out of bed for about an hour I do not recommend the prescriptions they gave me unless it is really needed. I sincerely hope I never see a day like that again. I do sympathize with you and hope your problem gets better. I hope your doctor can be of further assistance to you because that is who should be able to make recommendations for you. If your doctor is not of enough assistance maybe you should change doctors.

Get well soon.

It sounds like you have a disc herniation in your L3-L4 vertebrae... you might have to go to an orthopedic surgeon in order to fix that, you should go to your MD and get some x-rays taken.

I had the same problem after herniating a disc 10 yrs ago and every so often (almost exactly what happened to you recently) I'd throw it out. I tried physio (didn't help much), robaxacette with codiene (you have to ask the pharmacist for it and it is STRONG) hot and cold compresses etc.

Then I finally gave in and went to a chiropractor.....one treatment later I was able to move reasonably well with a lot less pain, 2 treatments later I felt better than I had in years 3 treatments and I feel better than I did for the past 10 yrs.

BTW: I also bet you have trouble taking a dump too right? That's cause your lower back muscles are fucked up and they help move things along so to speak.

Believe me, go see a chiropractor. I never would have believed he could help me the way he has and now I am a true believer....

Oh yeah, I just remembered too: don't use HOT compresses, use cold. I forget why they said to use cold instead of hot but hot can be used to relax stiff muscles but can help inflame the sciatic nerve or something like that.

You can purchase at Walmart or health stores. It comes in cream or gel cap form. I use the ointment cream for my clients.

Could this be a possibility?

Clinical studies have shown that glucosamine does not do anything.

Go to a chiropractor. Get a RMT to work your lower back muscles. Exercise. Eat more bran. And hire as many SP's as you can afford just in case you are losing the ablilty to move those hips.

It's funny that you say that about sp's because when I herniated my disc, my gf at the time asked about sex. The doc said that sex is actually really good for your lower back (missionary posit) because you are stretching your lower back (extension) which helps relieve the pressure on the disc.....

Yes, it is only a temporary solution, however.....With most of my clients it has helped tremendously. It has to be applied properly not just slapped on. In fact, it was a truck driver that got me hooked on using this cream. He wont go anywhere w/out it!

Chiropractors are bullshit, at least thats what I thought until I went to one for a similar problem. Pain was so great I would have tried anything.
Just like tboy's results, some relief first time, by the third time I was ok.
Still don't really believe it but if back pain re-occurs I'm going back to the chiropractor.

I actually don't have any problems taking a dump, no.

I haven't been to the doctor at all, but I just got back from shoppers and they gave me aspirin with codiene. I am able to move today, but I can't go through another night like last night.

If that happens, I will go and see the emergency ward.

And or a chiropractor.

I know it sounded kinda personal (about taking a dump) but not being able to control your bowels is a sign of a serious problem. If you go to the sites linked in the other post you will see that is a symptom of complications.

Try the ice packs man, they help. AND GO TO A FRIGGIN CHIROPRACTOR... I hate it when people say "oh you gotta try this, oh you gotta try that, " and I do hate being one of them but man, I never would have believed it. I went in there not being able to stand straight and just moving hurt like a bastard and came out walking normal, standing straight, and being able to lean forward without screaming....

Oh, one more thing, if you're going to the er, don't go after 11 pm or around closing time. They get busy when the bars let out from all the drunken fools trying to proove their manhood by doing stupid things lol

Forget the emergency ward. They've got more important things than a bad back to deal with. All they'll do is give you codeine.

Chiro, ice, rest, anti-inflammatories, codeine before sleep.

Be patient, look for gradual improvement.

I suffered with back pain for years...until the last two years. If it is a herniated disc, and I suspect it's not, then this will work. And once it does work, you owe me.

Go find a Chinese Accupuncturist NOW ! After about 3-5 treatments your back pain is going to be gone. It will likely feel 50% better after one treatment the following day. After your pain free, start a yoga routine that emphasizes strengthening your stomach muscles. Do them 5 times a week. I absolutely promise you that your back pain will likely never return.

Unless it is a herniated disc. Then ignore the above, go see a doctor, and forget you owe me anything.

IT WILL WORK !

Hurt my lower back in a weightlifting accident when I was 17. I've had on and off lower back problems ever since. I remember once letting go a big sneeze and the next I knew I was flat on the ground with an unbearable sharp pain shooting through my lower back. It took me 3 days til I could walk proper again.

Now I make sure to stretch and exercise enough that I don't have the problems so much. I do recommend massage therapy. A good massage to relieve back pain is worth more than a happy ending ever could.

I agree. I had back problems as well as a tiny hunchback. After seeing accupuncturist a few times my back was straight again and didnt have pain like before. Accupuncturist can definitely help whatever sickness you have but like i said in another thread recently, there are some "fake" ones or ones that are not as good, i guess you can say. But if you find a legit 1 then you're good.
If they are legit, they should be able to tell you what kinda problems(health) you have without you telling them beforehand. like internally.

Acupuncturist, Physiotherapist, Massage Therapist and Chiroprator.....Seen them all and they all have benefits....

Have had back problems as well.....

Chiropractors are great especially if the back problem is a spine related problem...If it is a muscle related problem go see a massage therapist or acupuncturist (even better if you can find someone who knows both)....

My physiotherapist also showed me some device that looks like a rack (that old medeval torture device) that stretches or straightens out the spine....Supposedly, it works very well... Never used it as my back was never in that bad of shape.....

Also, are you in shape?
Do you do back strengthening excercises?
Also, working on your abs will help your back as well.....

Something that has really alleviated a lot of my back problems is an inversion table -- like inversion boots, but a balanced table that allows you to incline at angles less than full inversion and also apply tractional (rocking) inversion to help release back muscles and take the weight off the spine.

The downside is it has a pretty good-sized footprint in your living space. But it's way worth it. Fitness Depot sells them or you can get one online. There are some contraindications -- only one I can think of is high blood pressure.

You need to get an MRI which will hopefully show what is causing you this pain. Could be a herniated disk (probably L4). Do you have numbness in your legs?

One week later, I am back to normal.

Last Friday night I was screaming in pain. Yesterday, I was out jogging.

I had the issue in the past and was told by doc friendly that it's a muscle issue.

I need less stress in my life combined with more excercise.
