Well if I'm going to pop my cherry and make my first post on TERB it might as well be this thread!

Hi folks, life long motorcyclist here. Started riding mini bikes at 8, dirt bikes, street bikes, crotch rockets, bit of racing, helped the safety council with new rider training. Yeah, you could say I've got some experience. At 61 I've probably got as much saddle time as seat time.

Goodoer, glad you're considering a MC. There is nothing else I'd rather do than ride, and that includes enjoying lovely women! Remember, it is an inherently dangerous sport that could easily get you killed! Please take these words of advice seriously.

1) Take a fucking course! If you have no experience you need to be taught the basics and go from there. Use their loaner bikes.

2) Wear proper gear. All the fucking time! Hell, I don't ride to work or the corner store without complete gear. Use this motto: "Dress for the slide, not the ride."

3) Your first bike is a used bike. Hear me? You will drop it, break mirrors, levers, scratch it dent it. The CRF250 is a great machine, but tall. Make sure you can flat foot the SOB while seated.

4) NEVER drink and ride. I'm a beer snob and have a high tolerance for beer. I can feel the difference on the bike after ONE beer. Just don't.

5) Don't buy a cruiser bike (sorry Sophia). Bad seating position doesn't allow for full control of the MC when needed.

You can PM me if you want to talk bikes, riding, riding skills, training, anything bikes.

And Indiana, that's old and lame. I've actually used this line- Them- "What do they call MC riders at the hospital?" Me- "Same thing they do everywhere else- fucking awesome!"

Cheers guys

Don't buy a brand new bike. Get a used one just in case you find you don't really like riding you wont lose much reselling it.
Get a used Suzuki SV650. They are fun with enough power for everything, hwy riding, 2 up. They are also cheap on insurance

Get your wife the Grom. Very peppy and can cruise all day at 100. A caution about the Honda crf450l. It’s engineered more towards off road. Particularly when it comes to maintenance. An awesome bike , but oil changes must be done every
600 miles , and valve adjustments every 1800 miles. Thought about this bike as a secondary bike , but I don’t want to be doing oil changes once a week. Lol

You won't want a Grom when you actually see one in person. It so small it looks really goofy. Maybe for a very small woman, but a grown man on a Grom? You'd be laughed at by all the other motorcyclists.
