Anyone try those low carb beers, Sleeman Clear, Labatt Sterling or Molson Ultra?

I'm one of those guys who has to watch my carbohydrate intake and it's going to be hell this summer without some type of brew.

I drink Molson Ultra steady now (In the US its called Michelob Ultra) and I love it. I dont get that bloated stomach feeling and the taste is supreme. Some people like the Sterling better so you may want to try it first.

We tested all three brands with bar customers over a 2 week period and decided on Sleeman Clear. Labatts came second and Molson's Ultra was trashed. Sleeman's out sells Labatts at least 6 to 1 where I work. My personal opinion is they all taste like water and the small carb savings available really aren't worth the sacrifice of having a real beer. Skip a McDonalds drive through once a week and you would accomplish the same goal.

I would rather drink one good beer a day than five shitty ones. Switch to Crown Royal.

If you are *serious* about the carbs, don't drink beer. Otherwise, the reality is that the number of "fewer carbs" is not worth the lack of enjoyment. Drink what you want if you don't care about carbs. Don't drink at all if you do.
But Winston my man, that's like telling an alcoholic not to drink O'Doul's. Whatever the diet or reason, if someone is out to restrict an intake, and a number of products is made to do that, what's wrong with tryin to find the best of the bunch??

If someone is trying to restrict sugar intake, what's wrong with using Equal? If they are trying to restrict milk fat, what's wrong with 2% or less? If they are trying to restrict carbs, and like beer, what's wrong with going with the best tasting low carb?? Tastes vary, but one thing I've learned in all these years, almost anything can become an acquired taste...meaning, you drink piss vinegar enough times and it eventually becomes the "Nectar of the Gods"!!

Re: Re: low carb beers

I find this really interesting because any reviews I've read have had that order reversed with Sleemans Clear being among the worst beers ever brewed. But then that's a website for real beer snobs.

You have a great attitude .. lol. Actually I was thinking of picking up a few Brit beers like Tetley's and then telling my wife they're the equivalent of our light beers and that there's very little difference between a light and low carb beer. I just thought a low carb label might earn me more brownie points.

The reason I drink Ultra instead of Sterling is because it has an extra .5 % alcohol. I dont wanna get cheated if you know what I mean ;)

I've been leaning toward this one for that reason. It's the only one that isn't classified as a light beer. It's bad enough that you show people you're a wimp by drinking light beer, and then you have the stigma of being a low-carb wimp.

My poll rating was far from scientific. Just a bunch of customers with beer guts claiming to be on the Atkins diet. I personally tried all three brands and dislike every one. I rather be forced to drink Old Milwaukee.
