It sounds like the Scarborough hospitals do not receive as many private donations as their counterparts in other regions; but why is that? Is Scarborough poor compared to other regions in the GTA? Or are the Scarborough Hospitals less competent at fundraising than their rivals at other GTA hospitals?
To me, this reflects a larger problem in how our healthcare system is funded. All hospitals depend on private donations as part of their budget so the hospitals are all placed in the position of literally having to compete with one another for the same group of donors (especially the more affluent ones).
That’s why these commercials kinda rub me the wrong way- it seems like an escalation in fundraising tactics to “poach” donations from other regions. But again, it’s hard to fault them given that this is the system they have been given to work with.
