unfortunate lottery winners

Worst one was a woman was so nervous that she was shaking and couldn't sign the winning ticket. She asked her son to sign it for her, and he claimed the entire prize, and blew all the money.

This is almost the identical folly that saved me from possible gambling problems and happened when I was in my late teens. I was playing a game at a carnival for a big bear for my girlfriend and some how got into this double the bet and walk away as a winner. Cleaned me out of $80 in one game and taught me a lesson. Now I set a limit and look at it as the cost of entertainment.

I dated a girl who wanted to go to Niagara for some casino fun. She told me she liked gambling but didn't have a problem. She went to the tables and I did my thing - allocated $20 and headed for the slots. My idea is to try different ones and amuse myself until the $20 is gone. I got lucky and I was riding $60 before it went down to $40 and I stopped. This is where her perspective and mine were different. I joined her at her table to watch and told her what happened - she couldn't understand if I was winning - why did I walk away ? I watched her hit the ATM twice before I convinced her to leave the table and join me for dinner.

I do buy lottery tickets - actually one for a particular draw. Gamblers would see this as pure folly because of the odds but I don't look at it like that. I'm buying a dream for the cost of a burger. I don't expect tp win but as long as I have ticket - I have a chance. So for that period until the draw, I can dream of exotic women and vacation locations. Well worth the $5 for me.
One of my previous wives was addicted to gambling. I found a lot of "jackpot" stickers from the slots in her car, but she would never leave with money.

They didn't ban him from cheating, he just has a massive bankroll and when he gets hot it's a pain for the casino to pay out
He wasn't
Slots are a suckers game....reserved for seniors in their diapers. They love the flashing lights whe their minds start to go.
Yes it is, however, it is the young ones that get addicted to all the bells and lights, not we clever and smart seniors.

Apparently another reason for betting limits is to thwart people trying to use the Martingale betting strategy.

The strategy is if you win your first hand, you keep the money. If you lose the next hand, you double your bet the hand after that to get back your loss. You keep doubling until you get back to even on that first loss of $5.
If you were allowed to keep doubling infinitely it would be a guaranteed winning system. However, a betting limit stops that infinite progression.

Say your first bet is $5, and you lose.

Say you continue the doubling and keep losing.

Say the betting limit is $5,000, which it is in the $5 minimum Blackjack game at BetRiver.

Bet 1 = 5
Bet 2 = 10
Bet 3 = 20
Bet 4 = 40
Bet 5= 80
Bet 6 = 160
Bet 7 = 320
Bet 8 = 640
Bet 9 - 1,280
Bet 10 = 2,560
Bet 11 = 5,120 But you can't bet that cuz the max is $5,000.

Blackjack can be a streaky game, and so can roulette. Don't forget the progressive losses are cumulative. So worst case you can lose much more than $5,000 trying to get back the original $5 plus your consecutive losses.

Btw the longest streak of consecutive reds in roulette was 32 times in a row in an American casino. Happened in 1943.
Re doubling up on gambling bets. This is supposed to be a true story. Golfer Lee Trevino a played golf game with a rich guy at a private course. They decided to play for $ and they decided 25 cents a hole, double up on carry overs. Trevino had to give him strokes and then intentionally tied every hole. How much was the bet on the 18th hole??? Figure it out. Moral of this story, never gamble on anything with strangers.LOL.

Sometimes in Las Vegas I sit at the online multi-player BJ machines and play $1/$5 bets with my Starbucks & drink and ear buds in just to start the day. The machine keeps track of last hand history ( like on Roulette) for 20 hands. I've seen the dealer hit 17 to 21 many times 15 hands in a row. Those are not random generated machines !  Just watch on the sidelines for a dealer streak of 10 to 15 wins and a row and then come in, he's likely to start busting . . .

I think most non-live dealer casino games, in person or on-line, are programmed with a much higher house edge than the live games. That's why they allow such low minimum bets on the machine games.

I’ve been in that spiral too, and what helped me was stepping back from anything that fuels the urge, even stuff that seems harmless. Reading up on non Gamstop casinos actually made me realise how easy it is to slip into nonstop access, which pushed me to set harder limits and cut triggers like YouTube slots. Talking to someone or setting up blockers made a bigger difference than I expected.

I remember Trevino telling the story that the money games is where he honed his skills because usually he was playing for $100 with only $10 in his pocket and that made him concentrate on every shot.

I understand that slot machines have the worse odds of any of the Casino games. I stick to what I know, the stock market. I suspect that about 90% of the profits on the stock market are made by guys that know the market and the financial institutions. If the stock market was a Casino, they would ban me for being a card counter.

I lost another $3,500 this New Year's playing slots. Didn't have anything to do, and just wanted to get out.

Should have spent it on escorts.

This is a perfect example of insanity. You keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result!!!!!

Or you should have invested your money wisely into GIC's or the stock market, and then spent a budgeted amount of your ROI on escorts instead
