Butler1000 has gone on record that his name has nothing to do with Smedley Butler.
1) Smedley is a really great name
2) There's something that rings accurate in the comparison; butler1000's claim to be antiwar and socialist but his backing of fascism and accelerationism. Comparing that to Smedley's possibly fake coup, his claims to be antiwar yet his own history of crackdowns for prohibition seem reasonable. Mostly its the claim to be of the people but really its justification for fascism.
But mostly its 1).
Great name.
The business plot. I know, he turned them in but its unclear how involved he was.
Considering he had a pretty consistent anti-fascist speaking and writing position, I think it is a bit of a stretch to suggest he was a secret fascist.
