Please do not flame me or joke about the following as every word is true!
Today has been one of the greatest days I can remember. It started off slow but it sure took a turn for the better. I had the opportunity to get out of the office for the day and do some road calls. I have the next week off so there was only 1 call to be made. Basically, I pretty much had the day off. The call was at Metro Hall where they were holding the NHL prospects media blizt. I took my friend Mike and we made plans to go setup my proposal afterwards. I drove. We got there just after noon and it was crazy. After a little mingling in the back area, I saw Wendel Clark. We went up to him to say hi and he was really gracious. As I was talking to him, someone hugged me from behind. My friend Mike who was looking at me gave me a strange, I have no idea who this person is look. I turned around and there she was. It was just like in the movies as I could swear there were lights behind her to illuminate her figure and it was if she was moving in slow motion. It was Sandra. Sandra was my serendipity. She is the one that got away just under 10 years ago. I was so crazy about this girl I have no doubt I would have Menedez’ed my parents if she had asked me to! I was so crazy for this girl that I became her friend for 3 years just so I wouldn’t get rejected by her. Anyway, she looked beyond gorgeous. She was outstanding with her perfect face, her perfect body and even her perfect hair. I WAS STUNNED! I forgot I was talking to Wendel Clark. (If you ever read this Wendel, I’m sorry for not even saying another word to you!) For a little background, my g/f and Sandra were friends. I had only met my g/f once before we went out and I didn’t even look at her when Sandra was there. Sandra was the one. I was her friend until the time we both were single. I asked her out once and we went to a Portuguese restaurant downtown and we then saw the show Carmen. (That tells you how long ago it was). She never considered it a date, but in my mind it was. I then asked her on a date for real and she was shocked. She told me she couldn’t see me like that and that she wanted to be friends. You know what happens to a friendship after that. She then set me up with my current g/f. After a while, they started to fight and soon Sandra was completely out of the picture. I would always think of Sandra and wonder how things would be with her. Anyway, there she was today. A good 6 years since I had last seen her. The moment I said her name Mike’s face smiled (He had never met her but heard me talk about her). She asked me how I was and we went over the pleasantries. I asked her if she wanted to join us for lunch. She said “sure, that would be great”. My body began to tingle. Then Mike (now the nicest guy I know) said he wasn’t hungry and for us to go and he wanted to stay at the hall. Thank you Mike! Sandra looked at me, took my hand and said, “let’s go”. I was still stunned. We went to my car and started driving when low and behold we came across the same Portuguese restaurant. Now all along we are talking about my g/f and how we are getting married. We were also talking about her and her husband and their little boy. This was great. Without hesitation I parked and after a few moments, she realized it was the same restaurant. We walked in and sat down. We continued to talk about the past. The waiter came and we ordered. Then just after the waiter had left, she said it. I am still in denial but I know for sure I had heard it. I am probably typing this so that in the morning I will know it wasn’t a dream. She said that that one moment 10 years ago was the turning point in her life and that if she had the opportunity to do it again, she would have said ‘yes’. She went on to say that she loves her husband and her boy, but she still would have gone out with me. I’m not done yet! I respond back with something I never EVER, in a million years would thought I would say to Sandra. I said, I’m glad things did turn out the way they did though, otherwise I would never have met my g/f. I swear to God I said that. I am not the type of person to say that, but there I was saying it. She seemed to take it very well. We continued to chat, we ate and went back to Metro hall. As we arrived, she kissed me on the cheek and asked me for some paper. I went into the back and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. She wrote her phone number down and asked me to call. She then just got out and left. She was gone like she was never there and the only proof I had was the piece of paper.
