Looking for input, can it be done?

500k in liquid assets, gta home to fall back on later in life, monthly rental income of @2k clear, and an Asian fetish...is there anywhere I can retire and live happily ever after?
I'm middle aged, generally healthy and no important ties to anywhere.

I would start by researching Thailand. Then, the Phillipines and, maybe, Vietnam. I don't think China would work, although people do it. The whole thing might wear off quickly if the first few experiences aren't good. There is lots of stuff on the net describing various lifestyles. You could hang out in Bangkok and play the field, or get adopted by a rural village. More or less the same thing works in the other places.

I've been to Thailand once for a holiday and loved it! Vietnam, Cambodia and Philippines are definitely on the radar and I'm hoping to get some feedback about these places. For sure I'll be doing more net research, but I thought here would be a good place to start.

Costa Rica is where Im going in a few years. already transferred some cash down there and looking to buy a nice condo near the water. Friendly government pretty good healthcare system cost of living is way less than here

The people of Thailand are great. The only problem is that the King died recently and he was the glue that held two radical factions together. His son is not as respected (Thai version of Charles). I have a friend who married a beautiful young 19 year old and built a home in rural Philippines. He's happy. There are terrorists in the south and their leader is a little unstable but it seems ever where has a 'yeah, but' to it.

You won't live very well on 2 grand a month, you definitely won't live the monger lifestyle. I'm speaking of Thailand, you can live and maybe get mostly low end beach road girls with the odd hottie thrown in occasionally.

I have seen "that guy" who tries to live like a big shot, but on the cheap in the third world and thinks he is gonna be some God to the appreciative local girls.

I spent 5 months in tl a few years ago and 4000$ a month wasn't enough. All depends on the lifestyle you want to lead. 500-1000$ will be spent on necessities, the rest for play, good luck with that.

I realize that on $2k / month I won't be living like a king, but I'm hoping to find a country where that amount will cover my living expenses like food, shelter, and other necessities with a reasonable comfort level. Other luxuries such as travel and women will have a separate budget. Beside finances my concerns would be safety and ability to "fit in" with the locals.

Lots of ex-pats living in places like Pattaya and Phuket. Fitting in shouldn't be a problem and I'm sure they'd help with the transition if that's the route you go. Good luck!
