Looking for a Lawyer

Hi,
I am looking for advice on finding a good lawyer to help with a separation agreement. I have a lawyer right now, but she is not willing to deal with the immigration aspects of the case. I would rather have one lawyer than have two lawyers. Finances are not good with me, and are a big factor in selecting a lawyer.

I sponsored my wife and she is really taking advantage of the fact that I am financially responsible for her for 10 years. I am citizen of this country and it seems like all the laws are against me and are on her side.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can recommend a lawyer who is well versed in these situations.

Thank you,
ttl

Well, you DID sponsor her. What do you mean by taking advantage? If she's refusing to find work and refusing to improve her life in any way that is something your lawyer should be able to make good on. If she is legitimately trying to find gainful employment but just can't, well, you ARE her sponsor.

Ive had like 4 emails this week asking if I could sponser a guy ,marry him so he can obtain citizenship ....This shit is happening by email !!!!!
Then it says oh once we are married and I can stay in your country ,you are free to go and so am I,we pretend like were married on paper only.I financially take care of you if you give me citizenship for ten years .

I think some people are getting some rude awakenings what marriage is all about lol

the fact that you signed a sponsorship agreement does not affect your family law rights. A divorce court judge will still look at the standard indicia for an alimony order - length of time together and the degree of her dependence on you, your income level and her prospects of quick employment.

If you tell me a little more about the above factors, I can give you a good idea of whether you will be paying alimony or not.

It doesn't affect his family court rights, but it does give him additional obligations. Let's say he winds up paying alimony for 1 year only. He's obliged to provide her basic needs for the 10 year period. If he doesn't and she goes on welfare he gets a bill from the govt. to cover the costs. That's the undertaking he signed his name to, it plainly says that in the sponsorship agreement.

Don’t know about this situation, but hear there are people willing to pay $10,000 - $50,000 to be married to a Canadian so that they can have status here. Being financially responsible for the person sponsored for 10 years would add some risk to the deal, unless you have nothing to lose. Would be interesting to know how aggressive the government is in collecting money for the sponsored person.
