Some of the money being thrown around today shocks me, and the terms of the deal suprise me evenmore. players like demitra at 4.5 million and holik at 4.5 mill at long tem deals will come back to haunt these teams. First of all with many long term deals sometimes "magically" a player underachives in the first couple of years because of security with both money and time. There are so many starts that dont play to their potential because they dont have to anymore. Lets not also forget i dont think the nhl will reach 1.8 billion dollars of revenue which means the cap could go as low as 34-35 mill. that can spell trouble as a 5 mill dollar player will have almost 15% of a teams payroll. And if you choose a buyout the 2/3 buyout will go against the cap. and good luck trading as trading a player with high contracts will become very risky and complex. the leafs as of now dont look to be a serious ontender because they spent in the wrong ways ( i believe anyway wth my model theory) and i still rather not see them dishing out 3-4 year deals..lets stick to 1-2 because there is still much questions to be answered
