I bought a Samsung 40" model LN40A530 for $799.99999 plus taxes. I heard some horror stories about plasma.

1) High energy use.
2) Poor performance in a lit room.
3) Fast burnout rate.

I have a large Plasma and a large LCD in my house. Much prefer the Plasma, especially for fast moving sports.

Ya, a Plasma has a shorter lifespan but at the current prices these things have become almost disposable. By the time a $1,000 Plasma starts to deteriorate, which will take many years, the replacement cost will be next to nothing.

In the lower price range for Plasmas I would buy a Panasonic and for the higher price range, a Pioneer. Based on the reviews on CNET it appears that some lower priced Panasonic models have reached the performance of the Pioneer models.

How fast is fast? My sales guy said that 60Hz is plenty fast for all human sports. Are you speaking of auto racing where they go 200 MPH?

Here`s the thread: https://terb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=217510&page=4

Best Buy has a Samsung 50" flat panel plasma HDTV for $899.

What looks good in terms of HD TV`s?
That looks good...I`ve seen cheaper no-name brands, but never a Samsung for that price.

Its probably a 720p model (as opposed to the trendier 1080p), but from 8-10 feet away, you probably wont notice the difference.

If I didnt already have a few tvs...this is the one I would purchase.

I went to the store and took a look at a 50". Too big for me. So I'm thinking 40-46" now.

Futureshop has a Samsung 40" LCD, 1080p, 20000:1 dynamic contrast, 2x HDMI, for $800.

Do you have the model number? I suspect this is the same or one model below the Samsung that I bought. Does Future Shop do physical deliveries?

Not sure if they do deliveries. I think they do but don't expect it on boxing day (or any time quick, for that matter). They have their own home audio/video department team so them must do deliveries.

On boxing day you don't necessarily have to buy it and take it with you. They'll mark it for pickup later (just pray they don't resell it on you and offer you a refund after the fact).

Hey Keebler, thanks for the link to the Future Shop Boxing Day flyer. (That noise you hear is the Christmas party downstairs.)

That flyer shows a Samsung 40" Touch of Colour Series 7 Model LN40A750on sale for $1,599. 120 Hz and contrast 50,000:1.

I bought the Samsung 40" Model LN40A530 for $799.99999. 60Hz and contrast 30,000:1. The salesman said it is not worth paying an extra $800 (especially for someone "between projects" and using gift certificates instead of real money) for the extra Hz and contrast. Sort of like buying a car that goes 200MPH when you only really need 90MPH.

There is 40" and 40". I think Samsung also has a 40" Series 7 Touch of Colour for $1,599 as Boxing Day special. Don't forget you also enjoyed your Samsung for 1 year. BTW: How do you like your Samsung?

Need some advice....

Planning to buy a 42 inch LCD....
Just wondering about transporting it home?

Can I fit that in a normal sedan type car or do I need a bigger vehicle like a van or SUV?

They're pretty long. If your seats or trunk divider fold down you can probably do it. Even then it will be awkward.

Otherwise I doubt it.

I decided to let the vendor company deliver it. Why do you want to struggle with this thing yourself?

Want that 42" at my place ready to go as soon as I buy the fucking thing....I got a PS3 ready and waiting for it.....;)
