This is the first time I have heard of this, so I thought I would share it here

I had already heard that some LGBTQ2+ people are using Truvada as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)

PEP is emergency medicine that you can request if you think you have been exposed to HIV during the last few days. It's not just one pill. It is something like one per day for 28 days

You can find the details through the link

I am still curious about how much it costs, and whether there is financial assistance available for people who can't afford it, but that is a matter for a separate thread

I had my consult today! I went to the LGBTQ medsexpert centre on church. Yes, it's literally like birth control but for HIV prevention. I felt so educated and comfortable after speaking with the gentleman/doctor that owns the clinic, that I am going to volunteer for Pride and help give info about it.

Also, the link you shared was for PEP no PREP, which are 2 different things. Prep is 98 or 99% effective, Pep is a if you've been with someone affected and take within 30 days like the morning after pill. It's also now covered by Trilliam health care. *The more you know *

Yes, my whole point was that PEP is available. I had never heard of anything like that before.

PREP sounds like a great thing for those at risk. I've wondered more than once whether SPs know about it and use it.

The drug might be new but the concept isn’t. Post exposure prophylaxis has been around for years for healthcare professionals who get needlestuck from a patient with hiv.

Yes. I believe that it's been available to doctors and nurses for quite a while. Also to victims of rape.
