I'm really not surprised by this given the feeble excuses offered up by Dalton after the election. But what this now illustrates is just how bad politicians and in this case the Ontario Liberals are willing to lie to get elected. I thought Dalton had his entire platform budgeted out and reviewed by third parties.

Take a read based on your personal slant. It all comes out the same in the end.

As GOOBER points they all spin round to see the MCGUINTY leap at the TAXPAYER'S throat with an appalling scream. From a distance of about twenty feet there is a wallet opening noise, a cry from the TAXPAYER. A quick CLOSE-UP of a savage MCGUINTY rifling through a wallet and the TAXPAYER'S head flies off. MCGUINTY leaps back to the mouth of the cave and sits there looking in the ONTARIO PUBLIC'S direction and growling menacingly.

SHEIK: Je...sus Christ!

GOOBER: I warned you!

FANG: I done it again.

GOOBER: Did I tell you? Did you listen to me? Oh no, no, you knew better didn't you? No, it's just an ordinary politician isn't it. The names you called me. Well, don't say I didn't tell you.

SHEIK: Oh, shut up.

GOOBER (quietly): It's always the same ... if I've said it once.

Although I would agree that most polititians will say almost anything to get elected, some more blatent than others, Dildo Dilton definately took a page out of Trudeau's campaign strategy book when he ran against Joe Clark.

I find it amusing that everyone wants better health care and education but don't want increased taxes to pay for it.

Duh.

(And they call politicians hypocrites!)

What I want is a politician who gets into the game to make things better - and NOT line his pockets or those of his "friends".

They should pass a new rule - every promise broken means a 10% pay cut...

Like him or not, Harris laid out exactly what he was going to do, and did it.
Yeah, I remember when he promised to:

a) sell-off Ontario Hydro
b) kill Dudley George
c) create a decade of "crisis" and strife in our schools
d) exempt Crown Corporations from "Sunshine Laws" and then give his cronies fat contracts with them
e) amalgamate cities like Toronto against the wishes of the public
f) sell off the 407 to artificially balance the budget
g) etc.
h) ad naseum

And, before you jump down my throat, I am not anti-Harris. In fact, I think that he did a decent job and implemented some key changes that reversed Ontario's decline as an economic entity. The idea that he was any more honest or "true" than McFibby, though, is silly.

The difference is that Harris' lies/broken promises were those of omission.

a) Privatizing Ontario Hydro would've worked wonders for the Ontario economy if that idiot Eves didn't wimp out and flip-flop over it. Now we have no means of attracting investment because of the about face and no funds to reinvest from government coffers, all the while electricity was artificially low in price for years under Liberal and NDP governments before that. Selling it off became a necessary measure to correct past failures to do what needed to be done to keep it sustainable and the higher cost reflects the true cost which then drives conservation efforts.

b) Yeah, because he pulled the trigger.....

c) The decade of strife was not caused by Harris so much as by the wasteful age of the NDP that came before when they gave the unions everything they wanted and more. Harris stood his ground as a government should as part of a bargaining process. They demanded that teachers take accountability for their profession instead of just being written blank cheques. It is funny when the teacher's union cries how their job is important because they shape the mind of the future, but then balk at the idea that they should then be classified as an essential service that is protected from strikes. Anything those heartless moneygrubbers get is just desserts....I only feel sorry for the few good teachers left (as most left instead of being associated with the fools we see on TV all the time) who have to be silent while they are misrepresented by socialist egomaniacs.

I want better health care and education and I want the government to spend what they have more wisely before they dig into my pockets for more. Independent institutes have found wasteful spending in both sectors (such as janitors in hospitals making a huge percentage more than those in comparable situations in other sectors), so I think they should cut away the fat in the system before they can justifiably ask for more.

I don't mind paying higher taxes if I knew there wasn't some jackass sitting around a hospital or school doing nothing but is paid a king's ransom because he's in a union.
