Why should I get over it? Harpers ideals haven't changed - he still a avid Evangelist Also Harper turned 52 on Saturday - I think hes already mature LOL

http://communities.canada.com/vanco...er-keeps-his-evangelicalism-very-private.aspx

The Alliance Church, to which Harper has belonged for decades, believes Jesus Christ will return to Earth in an apocalypse, won't ordain women, strongly opposes abortion and divorce, condemns homosexuality as the most base of sins and believes those who aren't born-again are "lost."

Would you like a link to Americas best known Evangelists? Billy Grahem comes to mind ;)

Put me on ignore LOL I'm gonna be pissed until the next election in 2015.
Your problem seems to be that you are an unrealistic fearmonger.

There are many, many politicians who are religious and make personal choices based on religion. But in Canada most politicians are quite capable and do differentiate between their private lives and public duties.

It also appears that you watch far too much American television without being able to differentiate between the two countries. They are quite different on many levels.

I am happy to predict that with Harper that the sky will not fall, and that he will not introduce legislation to limit or ban either abortion or gay marriage.

Now if you are right he should introduce that legislation almost immediately, so we will get to see how accurate your doom saying is.

so you just read the Sun?...lol, my 4 year old son reads it too...he thinks Peter Worthington is creepy..
For me it isn't a sun/star issue, it is an issue with an author who is trying to promote her own book and the article has to be immediately corrected because the author reckless accused a group of being something they are not.

I'm not fearmongering, I'm playing devils advocate - just stating what could happen if everything goes terribly wrong. Please don't take everything I say to heart - I'm bored today. I've already stated that I am not a socialist and would probably have considered voting for Harper if he wasn't such a hypocrite. I admit I don't like him (his politics) and don't agree with his previous platform when he was part of the Reform/Alliance Party.

We will see. Harper will be in power until October 2015. I am just hoping that I still recognize Canada when the next election rolls around.

I think you missed the point. Believe it or not, the discussion is not about YOU, but about what politicians who have conservative social beliefs might be expected to do.
I know its not about me and if you go back a few posts and check you will see that Carling & Ridgeman & I were responding to the same posts - I should have copied Ridgemans post as well. I had added information on Harpers religious beliefs and we were commenting on that.

I`m glad to see I`ve gone from being an asshole to entertaining LOL I`ve had a few cups of coffee now - it took the edge off. It seems you may be a Church going fella` - thats fine :) I just don`t want someones extreme religious views shaping the country I live in.

Only time will tell what Harper has in store for us. I will be the first one to come back and apologize to the forum if I was wrong.
You aren`t an asshole, you were just acting like one, but you hadn`t had your coffee yet, so I forgive you. I don`t even know you, silly.

But, what makes you think I may be a church going fella? Bein a church going fella, and partaking in this hobby to this extent: https://terb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?334161-The-Delicious-Duo-A-REVIEW would, (I think), make me a hypocrite. Wouldn`t it? But to answer your question, no, I am not a church going fella.

Fortunately for me you`re a fellow coffe drinker :D

Isn`t that a slippery slope - religion and this hobby? Would it really make you a hypocrite? What if you were single? I remember the churchs views on adultery and have a feeling I know what they think of the ladies in this industry but, would they cast you out as a single man?

LOL! I am single, but I'm pretty sure most religious groups have policies against fornicating with 2 women (who are young enough to be my daughters), at the same time! But then again, maybe not, I don't know.

(You really have a thing against apostrophe's don't you? :p)

It's also a fact that they got more votes (MANY more) than any other party.....

OTB
I'm not arguing that they should not be the govervmnent. I'm saying that they should not be a majority in a true democratic country.

Well, it's still the law/process and our system at this time, so it's not anti democratic. It has it's flaws but until everyone stop whining about the cost of an election and will accept an almost $500 million bill for the next one.
Just because it's the current law/process doesn't mean that it's democratic since the law/process itself is democratically flawed. The result is what it is. I'm just pointing out that the other guys argumment may be old but it's not without merit.

Actually YES. Had Harper gotten the most vote and lost, then that would be highly undemocratic and with our current system, that can happen.

Don't forget, I did not dispute that Harper should be PM. I'm just saying that the comment from that guy about the majority with less than 40% of the vote had merit.

Harper will go down if he over-reaches in power to refashion the country to suit his yahoo fellow travellers in Alberta; the place that fun forgot.

The electorate reduced Mulroney to two seats, and we'll do it again to Harper. Oh right, we're canuck sheeple; strike that last statement.
