There's around 50 that are made for specifically honeycomb (not just the xoom). The vast majority of regular android apps work without problem.
I would agree it's disapointing not to see a few more apps made for tablets, but realistically the xoom has been out 5 days. Hardly anyone would buy that 3G version (including me, and I've been dying to get my hands on a xoom since it was announced) compared to the Wifi version. I don't have numbers but I know that Amazon sold out of them on release day.

The current apps on android are excellent and all deal with scaling properly anyway unlike the double res ipad stuff.

Also it helps to have hardware in people's hands before developing specifically for it.

Also, it depends what those apps are. Everyone is seems very preoccupied with how many thousands of apps there are available but in reality i have a total of 18 apps on my phone.

To buy A tablet without 3g is weird? Why would you wanna do that?

What you need is the Apple iOS emulator. It allows you to run iPad apps on your Xoom.

I read the stats a few weeks ago.. sorry no link handy.. I don't remember specifics but the % of people with ipad that actually use 3g is very low (even a large portion of people that buy the 3g model don't use it). I personally can't justify an additional contract for something that I'm pretty much only going to use at home. Besides, I can create a wifi hotspot with my phone if I am stuck for internet on the road.

As for an apple emulator.. not sure why I would want to do that. Pretty much anything I can think of that's a major app of importance is available for android too.

A lot of smartphones come with hotspot functionality. So people are buying wi-fi tablets and using their smartphones for internet.

Thanks. I did not know that? How is the speed when tethering to your smartphone created hotspot?

I tether to use my iPad as well, I pay Rogers 42+tax a month already for 6gb data+voice plan, no interest in having to pay even more!
Although I think I wouldn't get a tablet without GPS, it has come in handy for a few roadtrips now.

It's a phone plan w/6gb data added to the voice portion of it. It's a decent retention plan but I have a love/hate relationship with Rogers. It seems like every time I wanted something changed they screwed something up. Now I'm not going to call to tweak it for as long as I can.

Lots of people sell similar plans for ~$100 to transfer to your name/account on kijiji, rfd etc..

Yeah, I see those offers a lot. I have a friend that has been with Rogers for like 15 years. For close friends, he'll put them under his account and they end up with a disgustingly good plan. Right now, my company pays for my phone, so I'm good.
