Lee Roy Selmon passed away Sunday after suffering a stroke. He was 56.
Older TERBies who are also NFL fans may remember Selmon in that bright orange uniform of the expansion Tampa Bay Bucaneers. He was their first pick in the '76 draft.
Selmon was a Hall of Fame defensive end and was apart of the back to back NCAA Oklahoma National Championship teams.
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.

This story was in yesterday's Star.

He will be missed.
Way too young to die.
My thoughts go to his family.
He was an inspiration.
Why are all these athletes dying?

IMHO, expect more NFL players from the 80's to be passing away prematurely.
Too much unrestrained steroid and drug use at that time.
Many of the athletes didn't understand what they were taking or how to do it safely.
If it can be done safely. At least by the 90's there were doctors takng care of cycling, doses, etc. Clear and the cream anyone?
But back in the 80's steroid use in the NFL was rampant and completely irresponsible.
Many of these former players are going into their 50's and their bodies are basically dying prematurely.
They shaved too many years off their life.
