Perhaps here's something Riley Grace can do with her time waiting for customers to call: the first 8 hours of Pimsleur Japanese are available for free download.

http://www.pimsleurmethod.com/pimsleur-japanese-conversational-free.html

These files are offered free of charge, for the exclusive use of members of aid and relief organizations - private and govermental - working with victims of the recent disasters in Japan.

The 16 lessons in the Pimsleur Japanese Conversational course are the same as the first 16 lessons in the Level I course. The Pimsleur Japanese Conversational course includes the 10 lessons from Pimsleur's Japanese Basic course plus an additional 6 lessons.

The Pimsleur Japanese Conversational course contains 8 hours of interactive, audio-only language learning with real-life spoken practice sessions.
Pimsleur is quite good. I always use it when I travel to new countries to pick up the basics, in my opinion there's no better language learning system for spoken language, short of an actual human teacher.

Cool, I'll grab that. Hmm, all except for the "Free for relief organizations" part. Makes me feel kinda slimy, trying to profit from that.

Guess I'll just spend those eight hours watching the Kaelyn Kroft vid 285 times. I feel better already.

It says that on the site but the email they sent me made it clear it's there for anyone who wants to talk to someone in japan during the crisis.

I am on their list because I have purchased many of their language products in the past. I always put 8 to 10 hours into a language with their system before visiting a country where it's spoken. I find I get a lot more out of travel when the locals feel I respect them enough to learn at least a little of their language.

It's a good system for picking up a surprising amount of basic spoken language quickly.

If you want to go beyond that it's a good start too though it does not teach grammar so you obviously need to supplement it if you are trying tko become fluent eventually.
