Shareholders in the Teachers Pension Plan and the suits at MLSE are only concerned with improving to the point of making the playoffs. Lots of gate revenue, extra concession money etc. etc. Anyone who believes they are commited to fielding a stanley cup winner is deluding themselves.

the real problem is general managers they have had and the inability to draft properly. The furthure they go in the playoffs the more they make the more the players want it's a vicious circle

why wait? because THERE HAS been a decrease in revenue, and they WOULD be able to make MUCH MORE $$$ if they did consistently go deep in the playoffs.

I am a season ticket holder (family since 1958) many times I have been fed up enough to throw them back at them. Problem is, you do that and they simply throw the door open at 40 Bay Street and yell "NEXT" and 100 guys come running with $17,000.00 for a pair of tickets. Doesnt send any message at all.

What did help my soul is that I sold a lot of my seats this year on Stubhub, and made almost all of my money back, and sold less than half the season.

That is my own revenge.....24 free games this past season, and $17,000.00 to spend on a fireplace and a bigass plasma in the new basement.

Doesn't make any sense. Of course they'd like to create a Stanley Cup contender. If money is their main concern, a Stanley Cup contending type of team would only reap greater financial rewards.
Well.. yes and no. Going deep in the playoffs would mean large cash to be sure but there is a fear that if you reach the pinnacle (i.e. win the cup) there would be a drop off in buzz / fan interest ..ala your Toronto Blue Jays. Not saying that would happen for sure but I have heard this argument, most recently regarding the Chicago Cubs. Something about loveable losers... ;)

Good point. The red sox when they won their first world series, in what 100 years, was a big buzz surrounding them. Seemed like last year when they won wasn't the same hoopla it was like, oh they won again? But it's true if the leafs go deep in the playoffs every year, MLSE (the bastards!!) make more money.

Catch 22, leafs win cup, MLSE makes even MORE moola. But I'd still like to see a cup in toronto before I'm too old to enjoy it

There math is slightly off. I have moved 100 places in 9 years, and for this just finished hockey year I was told there was a 100% renewal rate so no movement whatsoever. I am around the 200 mark now. Using myself as an example, the poor guys at 4000 will need about 250 years to reach the front.

Yes, I know. That's probably how long it will take before the Leafs win their next Stanley Cup!

Why do I have to constantly piss on people's parades?

Sorry folks but anyone over the age of 35 will not live long enough to see the Leafs will the Stanley Cup.
