Leafs trade draft picks (51st and 117th this year and fourth rounder in 2014) for Dave Bolland ...

Great trade for the Leafs....

Even better that he is a Hometown Boy....

I wonder if he can rise to level of the last player the Leafs got after a Chicago Stanley Cup, Kris Versteeg.

What's to like about him? He only produced 14 points in 35 reg. season games this past year. The leafs already have enough mediocre forwards. A salary dump by the hawks, glad they found a team to dump him on. He will make $3.375 million next year. A lot for a third line player.

Well if it doesn't work hopefully Nonis can trade him for a first and third round draft pick like Burke did with Versteeg...

Bolland is a joke, he's lucky to even be in the NHL. He leeched onto the Hawks and lucked out on winning a cup!

He has been bad for nearly a year now, including playoffs. Extremely poor defensively all year and MIA long stretches offensively! I'd rather have Kruger as the #2 center than Bolland if I were the Hawks anyway!~

Does anyone think that the Bolland signing might mean Bozak is not coming back?

Any thoughts on Dave Nonis being the worst GM in the league?

We need Kathleen to comment on all the hockey talk today. She is always so well informed.

Watch out leaf fans!!!! Big significant trade move today puts Cal Clutterbuck and John Tavares on the same Islander team. Johnie loved him as his line mate/teammate with the Gennies. Doesn't get any easier for the make beliefs

How many draft pics have the leafs traded away this week . 4 .. The GM's change but things always stay the same . Bollard could have been a Leaf if they just drafted him

I think this trade, will put the Leafs over the top, and be true contenders, if two other things fall into place.

Kadri must continue to score and create goals.

Also, team defense must improve.

The goal tending must be better.

Then again, if team defense is better, you can get away without stellar goal tending. The Chicago Blackhawks have won two cups recently and both basically with no name goalies. In fact, after their previous cup, one of the very first players they let go was the goalie.

What you have in Bolland is one of the best third line shut down centers in the leauge, one of the better ones I seen play. He has some skill too. I think if we compare him to a Leaf player, that would be Kulemin in terms of skill, but the difference is the sandpaper, way more than someone like Darcy Tucker had. And the two cups of course.

We should not forget that Chicago team that won their first cup a few years ago.

Defense, Seabrook, Keith, Campbell, Hammerason (sp?)

Forwards Kane, Teows, Sharp
Vestiglie, Buflyine, Ladd,
Bolland, and I forget the others.

But damn, that was one of the best teams we will see in a long time. If this was not the era of the salary cap, that was a dynasty right there. Even with a no name goalie.

Remember who Chicago decided to get rid of because of the cap. They did not want to get rid of Bolland, until now.

Bolland does not have what the TV says high end skill, but he can play between someone like JVR and Lupal. No difference than what Bozak ever did.

Then the coach can get creative and have Bolland play between Orr and MacFralen. We can dub that the Hanson Brothers Line. Damn, I would love to see that. Bolland is that type of player.

Remember one of those Seabrook overtime goals against Detroit? The play was made in the center ice when Bolland targeted one of the Red Wings who had the puck, a borderline illegal hit overtime, which they won't call, that almost seem to injury the Detroit play.

But the big hit by Bolland, Seabrook turns up ice, he shoots he scores. I don't remember a Leaf goal where a Leaf tries to mame an opponent in the neutral zone, and that turn the rush up ice leading to a goal. Bolland hits people. The better player, the meaner the hit.

And Bolland can play too.

The Leafs just need a couple of more bad asses, and they'll be just like the Burins and Flyers from the 1970's, LOL.

Bottom line.

If you had to choose, who would you have on the team.

Frattin or Bolland?

Grabovski or Bolland?

Bozak or Bolland?

I think the choice is clear. I don't think you will get much arguement anybody.

If the Leafs don't finish in first place in their division, or close to it, I'll be surprised.

Go Leafs Go!
Go Leafs Go!
Go Leafs Go!

I see the Leafs making the same mistakes they've always made.

What's the logic behind offering Mark Fraser a two-way contract? Did Nonis not learn anything from the final minutes of the opening round. You do not let go of stay at home defensemen - how many years as Chris Phillips been with the Senators. If he leaves the Leafs are going to give up considerably more goals next season than the season past, who's going to clear the crease?

Nonis better change his mind or else the Leafs will not be in the playoffs come April 14.

Chicago obviously didn't think too much of Bolland. They gave him away for a few draft picks so they could save some cash to sign much better players on their roster. He's only got 1 more year on his contract, will be interesting to see if the leafs keep him after next season.

Leaf fans should not put Bolland on such a high pedestal and have such hight expectations ... I love he is a Leaf cause he has T.O Blood in him ie always brings the Cup back to his home town Mimico ( South Etobicoke ) but lets not expect this guy to be a Leaf leader in Stat department and he isn't the answer to all our centre postion problems .

Bolland is a better center than all the centers on the Leafs expect for Kadri I believe.

Chicago beat, Detroit and Zetelberg, LA King and Richards, Kopitar, then Boston.

Bolland played against the other team's top center. How would have Garbovski and his minus 10 against the Bruins and Bozak would have done? Not well.

Who .... um .... is going over the top as if Bolland is the second coming ?

All I see is Leafs fans pretty much knowing what they got in Bolland, a third line center at best.

Bolland is a solid two way hockey player.

IMO, he has good hands, and has some speed, can carry the puck or get in on the forecheck, willingness to be dirty. The papers said one name for his is "the Rat". When was the last Leaf with a nick name "the Rat"? Did Kenny Linesman ever play for the Leafs?

The Leafs right now just don't have that many good two way hockey players down the middle at center. Kadri looks like the real deal, he working hard last at defense.

With Garboski, his minus 10 in the Boston series was kind of surprising. Did not realize that number was that bad. Lets not forgot Bozak was something like minus 30 two years ago. That's not easy to do and stay in the lineup.

But that was the problem. Leafs just did not have anyone else.

We have seen enough of Bozak to see he won't be that great defensively or that great offensively. His numbers are not much better than someone like Bolland, and Bozak played with Kessel all these years.. Plus Bolland is much better defensively.

Bolland is just not a play maker, although he can put in a few goals in this league.

Maybe the Leafs are prepared to make that trade off, less flash and more defense at center.

After that Boston series last season, I would still say play Colbourne. I keep saying that. Bozak did not play games six or seven. No one really noticed. The Colbourne, Frattin, Lupul line was okay.

A final thought, the league has changed somewhat. A team like Ottawa, their entire lineup was basically a third line for much of the season last year and they still made the playoffs and won a round.
