so what, pray tell, will be the story this year?

McCabe is out indefinitely due to an injury, which means the Leafs' crappy defense just got crappier

Come on, the leafs are a non-entity, more so this year than most.

The only teams with a shot at winning this year are the same as last, Detriot, Colorado, Dallas, New Jersey. It pains me to say even my beloved Canucks are also rans.

spot on Kat

Kathleen, I think you are spot on about Quinn. The thing that has just repeatedly killed the TML over the past few years is stupid, undisciplined play. It seems like all the teams do it at some point during the regular season; the good ones stop at playoff time while the Leafs go into stupidity overdrive.

Have to disagree on McCabe though. I think he is a major loss.

FLoo!

Don't lose your hope leafs fan...the defence could be better if they could somehow resolve the Robert Svehla situation and i heard they are in talks with Ken klee...

What "D"?

Leafs defence could be patroled by household names as ...

Bell, Colaiacovo, Harrison, Hedin

Not exactly replacements for Svehla and Wesley.

Let's wait and see on that. I think White, Colaiacovo and Bell could come along nicely under the giudance of Marchment and McCabe and Kaberle. If they can keep us competitive we can always deal for a big name D at the deadline.

Personally, I think these kids are good home grown talent. This is the oportunity they have dreamt of all their lives. They'll show up and give it 110% everynight.

I just got tickets to the charity open practice on October 5, I look forward to seing some of the young guys show their stuff. The size of these guys and the speed of the NHL game always amazes me.

These chilly mornings sure get the hockey blood flowing!!
That's a good point you made there about giving some playing time to the younger kids. I mean, you never know how they will turn out unless you play them....The St. Louis Blues took a chance and play Barret Jackman under the guidance of Maclnnis and look how he turn out...Now i'm not saying any one of the leafs prospect is going to turn out that way...but you never know unless you give them the opportunity to showcase themselves....

Robert Sehlva

Well, it's official. The Fan590 has reported that Robert Sehlva has just sign his retirement paper, which means that even if he wanted to come back at a later time (during the course of the season) to play for the leafs, all 29 other NHL teams would have to approve of that. Hell has to freeze over before that ever happen...lol

Well, now the situation has cleared up, they need to find someone to spend that $4 million dollars on...the question is who?

Maybe they could just concede the season like you concede the penalty in football and make life less miserable for all you Leafs fans.

Ken Klee is not a saviour on D by any means...and you have to hope that Belfour can equal his success from last year and at 38 that could be tough sell...same with Mogilny to an extent, even though he is my favourite Leaf, he tends to be up one year, down the next...with that being said, Sundin will lead the team in scoring...I wish they did more in the offseason though...

at least they got rid of Jonas Craplund! and I dont think Renberg is coming back so who fills those spots...

all in all, if they can get a top 3 finish in the conference, they make it to the finals....Jersey is beatable if you ask me, Philly has Hackett so they arent a threat same with Boston and Potvin...Rangers are a mess...and the main competition Ottawa cant beat Toronto in the playoffs and I see no reason for that to change this time around....but then again every year I think this could be "the year"....'sigh'

I think you should cut Ottawa a break. If I remember correctly they made it into round 3 and Toronto didn't get out of round 1.

Plain and simple....Toronto is a team of older players who just can't play at a higher level anymore and have a coach that is a moron and is owned by people who care more about the bottom line than the product on the ice. Kinda reminds me of a return to the days of good ole' Harold Ballard! Ottawa on the other hand has a new owner that has money, they have a young team, excellent scoring touch up front, a young defense corp and really the only minor weak spot is the current goaltender.

I finally gave up on Toronto 3 years ago and now have season tickets to Ottawa. I suspect that I'll be front and centre the next time the Stanley Cup comes back to Ontario. The bonus this year for Ottawa Fans is that we even get to see "The Eagles" play a free concert before the season starts. What has Toronto done for it's fans lately other than jack up ticket prices?????

If I remember correctly, Toronto beat Ottawa 3 consecutive seasons, thus going farther in those 3 years....

as for last year, that was the first time in 5 years and under Quinn that they didnt make it out of the 1st round, so last year was an aberration...

or was it the Cujo factor...?

It is simple...Ottawa is a time on the rise....and Toronto a team on the decline.........
