$1 million is too much for him but if you look at previous JFJ signings it was expected. At least Antropov played pretty good at the end last season and hopefully he can avoid injuries and stay healthy next year.

He played just well enough to sucker JFJ (which isn't hard to do) into giving him another contract. And I wouldn't bet a dime on him staying healthy. 70 games would be a miracle.

Exactly. And many other managers will never give $1 million based on the way he was playing. But JFJ is ready to overpay  I guess we have no choice here, just to wait and see what happens next year. I will be happy with 50 games and playoffs (hopefully we can make it next year).

Decent 3rd line player with either the best or second best plus/minus on the team by a wide margin. Given the average salary in the NHL will be just under $2million it's not a bad deal.

There have been many times where Antropov looks brilliant for a couple of weeks and then he gets some weird injury and he plays like shit until he gets back into game shape again, then he'll have a few good games, get injured and play like shit again. Its a viscious circle with this guy. Very inconsistent. But the law of averages would have to suggest that he's due to have at least ONE healthy season..

As Coach points out, if the average salary is $2 million than you'd have to figure Antropov is at least half as good as the average player. Its a fair salary.

Sorry,I guess the story of Peca going back to long island was someone playing the guessing game.Another post from a sports site has him willing to take a paycut to play in Toronto or Buffalo,so we shall see I guess.

Antropov agrees to new deal

"Nik has continually progressed and evolved into a power forward who contributes offensively and provides size amongst our top six forwards," Maple Leafs vice-president and general manager John Ferguson said in a release.

power forward? as in a Jerome Iginla type power forward? - what the fuck is JFJ smoking?

He played in 54 games this season (vs. 57 games last season) and had about the same number of points, 33 points this season vs. 31 points last season. How is that progression? but JFJ doubles his salary from $1m to $2M! a 100% raise! What sort of GM would do that?

his salary fits right in with new signings of his point production...

if he's healthy (yeah, right) he's a super bargain based on his production of PPG.

does this mean we will lose Ponikarovsky?
