Aged goalie and 1st rounder for one of the younger stars in the league?

Sundin, Klee for Bouwmeester and Luongo. Salaries don't match. Why would I do that if I was Florida? Is u'r concern that they won't be able to sign either player.

this reminds me of the Leaf fan hallucinations of the mid to late 90's where callers used to phone Stormin Norm on the FAN 590 and say uhum ohhh I think the Leafs should trade Wendel Clark for Sergei Fedorov, or I think the Leafs should trade Nikolai Borshevsky for Peter Forsberg, that the trouble the followers of the blue and white cult dont think :D
I doubt Keenan would go Bouwmeester for Klee, Sundin and Belfour much less trading Luongo.

Actually this is very reminiscent of the moronic, over-valuation of hometown players by slappies in "HockeyTown". Maybe TO fans aren't as astute as I thought. Passionate yes, realistic no.

What happened to all the talk about the Leafs picking up Zetterburg from Detroit?I haven't heard anything about him being signed yet.Is he still available?Even if he is,I don't think Ferguson is gutsy enough to land him. Also, who's the guy the Leafs signed the other day from St Louis,I've never heard of him.Apparently it was for 3 years.

Zetterberg is an unsigned restricted free agent.

It's not about Ferguson having the "guts". It's about Detroit wantingto trade Zetterberg...why would they? What do the Leafs have to give up? Not enough.

Your right, it must be bs, because the Leafs would fleecing Florida. If you remotely think that it is a bad deal for the Leafs, you seriously don't know your players then.

i don't know my players? wtf are u talking about... luongo and and boumeisteer for mats sundin? that trade is just retarded because there is no way the leafs would trade sundin if its not for another good forward and plus he's still a good player and a fan favourite here..... and why the hell would tampa trade brad richards, their mvp for ed belfour, a goalie whos getting old.....???

seems like u dont know your players.... and if u think this trade is gonna happen, then keep dreaming.

u think you know your hockey so well..... why dont u become a GM ??

You're right, Tampa would never trade Richards for Belfour. Not a chance. Sundin for Luongo & Bouwmeister? It will never happen, but the Leafs would jump all over that one. A 34 (or so) year old star for the best young goalie in the league and a very highly rated defenceman, both of whom played in the World Cup for Canada? In a heartbeat. I love Mats, but let's get real.....
Anyhow that is just someone's fantasy, it will never happen.

Like I said at the start boys, I doubt it would ever come to pass myself as it is WAY to good to be true. But just some more insight, I am not a Leaf Fan, (OILERS all the way baby!), and I didnt here it from a leaf fan either, I actually heard it at a lunch meeting down in Miami from a guy named Dave :D

Anyways, you will also see that it is a rumour that I did not BS, because if you do a search on the internet, there are different variations of this trade.

Not defending the fact it sounds like BS and 99% wont happen, just denfending that 1) I am not a leaf fan 2) I did not make up this BS rumour.

Dont kill the messenger.....unless he's sent to kill you!

Heres an example of a similar one on the net (yes, yes, I know everything I read on the internet must be true) :D

Toronto Gets: G Roberto Luongo + D Jay Boumeester
Florida Gets: C Mats Sundin + First Round Pick

the Toronto turning around

Tampa Bay Gets: G Ed Belfour + 3rd Round Pick
Toronto Gets: F Brad Richards

And Last but not least has

Toronto Gets: G Mathieu Biron or G Mika Noronen ( Most Likely Noronen)
Buffalo Gets: D Ken Klee

Actually Coach......the Tampa trade is the only part of that rumour that would make any sense at all. Tampa basically has the same Cup winning team as last year, minus the big star goalie. They lost Khabullin. Richards is a steal, but, Tampa cannot afford him past this year. He becomes a free agent, and Tampa no way, no how, will be able to sign him. So they figure they might be able to wint the Cup one more time this year with Belfour in net. Their going to lose Richards regardless.

Maybe so. Going by TSN's roster list, hopefully accurate, they are currently at about 36.8m. A trade off of Richards for Belfour would add approx 1.1m putting them at about 37.9m. That with Andreychuk's salary undisclosed and not included in that amount. Do you have any idea what he signed for? I think they'd be really close to the cap with such a deal.

The Tampa owner was interviewed on the Fan the other day and he gave the impression that they were happy with their goaltending situation. Grahame had a pretty good record for them last year and with Burke as well they should be okay. If they made this deal they would likely have to dump one of Burke or Grahame and they just signed Burke so it would seem unlikely they would make a move for Belfour.

Keep in mind with the cap that it is the total $$ paid out, not the annual salaries of your players. In other words you can start the season with a $45million payroll as long as you get rid of salaries during the year.
As an example, Belfour's salary is approx $4.5 million, if the Leafs traded hin halfway through the season they would count only the actual $$ paid (approx $2.25 mill) against the cap. I suspect there will be trades during the season as teams assess their needs and the performances of players. Don't forget many haven't played in over a year and some may not perform anywhere near their previous level. Some guys may have too much rust, while others may benefit from taking a year off to rest their bodies. Nobody really knows.
Tampa Bay, for instance may ride out the season for a couple of months and go after a higher quality goalie in January, that way they only count a portion of the salary against the cap.
Isn't it great to be talking about hockey again!! :)

I cannot believe this thread is still going on.

All the discussion here is laughable.

These "trades" you guys keep talking about are not rumours or bullshit. They are figments of deluded minds. This is the epitome of the rantings of Leaf fans. This thread started because some guy in Miami heard some guy named Dave say something? OH MY GOD!

Let's start a new thread. A guy named Bob just told me that you should look out your window right now! Aliens from planet Z are landing on your lawn and invading your car. How do you feel about that?
