I read in this forum that LE always have a safety blitz every spring with a huge increase in the number of tickets given out. I'd forgotten all about that until I noticed lots of people getting pulled over in the last two days. Looks like the spring crackdown is underway again this year. Watch your speed for the next couple of weeks because your odds of getting a ticket are much higher than normal.

I wouldn't even bother warning them. Some innocent children get killed and lives cannot be brought back. I have no idea why people think that they can come off of a main street and speed into a plaza or a mall when there is people getting in and out of cars children walking through innocently to get to the sidewalks of the mall and then zooom a car comes in at full speed. One minute no cars are in view and then in an instant there is a car speeding at them. Speed limits are in place for a reason.

PS: I don't think anybody will argue that speeding is henious where there are children around.
What is less understandable is the speed traps that LE sets up 3 AM on 4 lane country roads
around where I live. During the day, when there is heavy traffic, LE is nowhere to be seen.
Absolutely right. The speed limits are for a reason. To protect us all. I have not been stopped by a cop in over 20 years and don't see why I have to share the road with a buncy of yahoos. Speeding in a school zone or any residential side streets for that matter, shopping mall parking lots, school yards etc of course is inexcusable.
In my driving days though I gotta say driving down Kilpling let’s say, or shooting across Steeles at the top, streets like that. Driving a new or semi/new car or van, everything running smooth… like at 60km/hr. I’m falling asleep ok. Not to mention there’s a big line up cars behind me trying to pass. I gotta be doing like 80 just to keep awake. Now going down those streets at 100-110 like I’ve seen some do, THAT is crazy.

If you want to speed get on the 401 and go over 100/km per hr. There is children all over a city on all streets attempting to use cross walks and drivers attempting on these main streets to go around corners as fast as they can without even checking and without time to check if anyone is around. Children could get just 3 steps out into a cross walk at any intersection and an unsuspecting car be there.
Some people just can't multi-task...
When I was a driver I use to talk on cell phone (hands free), talk on two-way radio, talk to girl in my car and eat lunch all at same time. No biggie.
One mistake I have made in my driving career though I'll admit to is trying to read map book and drive at same time. Never have mastered that one.

It did happen to me once (the one and only time in my life) in my car way back when years ago, I was getting a BJ while driving on the 417. Yah... I had to pull over. <LOL>
Cars are dangerous at any speed. Sadly a car can still kill a pedestrian even if it driver is obeying the speed limit, thus road safety is the responsibility of not just car drivers but pedestrians as well.
Whilst I wholeheartedly support speed limits in built up areas, especially around schools and playgrounds, I think that there too many speed limited areas. The over use of limits means the importance of speed restriction in particular areas, such as schools, often lost.
Too many of the limits are unrealistic, especially in rural areas and impossible to adequately enforce anyway. Often you are endangering nobody but yourself by breaking the speed limit. Nevertheless, these areas are occasionally used by the LE for the purposes of revenue collection, as their speed trap serves no other point. Sadly these types of antics cause many to lose respect for the Police.
For some, including me, speed is a drug. Now anybody can put their foot to the floor and drive fast on the 401, it is basically a straight line. The thrill for me is negotiating a series of bends as quickly as possible.
A speeding driver is probably concentrating harder and therefore less likely to endanger life than a driver who is obeying the speed limit but also, drinking a coffee, using a cell phone, smoking a cigarette, doing a crossword or putting on their mascara.
