I posted this in the Technology Section as well thought i could get some additional comments over here.

I'm currently in the market for a new television. Im stuck between LCD or DLP. Im only interested in hearing the pro's/con's, opinions, concerns and comments regarding these 2 types of technology.

I do know this.

DLP
PRO's - In a few years when the tv gets dim you can replace the bulb to bring the colour back to new

CON's - has little parts (dont know what they are called) within the tv screen that move.
- Not visiable from all angles

LCD
PRO's - no moving parts within the screen.
- a proven technology, been around for a while.
- Visiable/bright from all angles
CON's - Slighty higer price then DLP

Any other opinions/comments

as was my response in another thread...

Speaking as a broadcast professional, I don't like plasma screens. They do have a long viewing lifespan, but, they can leak. And when that goes, so does your screen. There's no fixing it. LCD's and Plasmas don't give sharp images. The colours also aren't very true to form. .

My opinion is to go with the Samsung's DLP TV's. Sharper image, 160 degree viewing area, the mirrors that are used actually help refract any outside light source that hits the screen directly, to keep the image clear. (LCD's and Plasmas can't do that.) The life span of the bulb is about 8,000 viewing hours, but, if it goes, you just replace it with a new one. No big deal, and you're all set again.

You can get a 52" for about $2-3k.

I believe on www.avsforum.com (pretty much the online reference site for video) the Samsung DLP's are not well liked. As for DLP, the only advantage of the mirror is it can be turned off. LCD panels cannot do this, so black level suffers. Having said that, LCD black levels have improved dramatically in the last few years. The greatest disadvantage of DLP is the color wheel. It is visible for me... and if you can see it... you will not like it.

Another Con- LCD's blur with fast moving objects on the screen... DLP, and Plasma's don't blur.

I have a DLP projector and it is great (NEC LT260). The Wheel is only 2x though to you can see rainbows if your eyes are too fast. LCDs have better colour, but in my opinion DLP has better contrast and usually the systems have more res.
